—Isaiah 9:6

As a clerk at the gas station near The Salvation Army, Huwaida always knew that help was just a short walk away. “I used to see people every day come from The Salvation Army,” she says. “I knew that that was the place where people go when they don’t have any place to go.” When her 20-year marriage ended, she was left with nothing and nowhere to turn—so she knew exactly what to do.

“My life turned 180 degrees,” she says, remembering how she felt the day she arrived. During her time at The Salvation Army, Huwaida received three meals a day, attended life-skills classes, and found her current job as a local deli clerk. “They helped me to stand on my feet again and get back to my life,” she says. Many family members have encouraged her to return to Jerusalem, but she stays in the states to be close to her son. Your generous support helped her secure a job. And now she has a car and an apartment of her own.

When it comes to The Salvation Army staff and friends like you, Huwaida has nothing but gratitude in her heart. “They make us feel like we’re not alone in this world. We come here without anything but they always put hope in us,” she says. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you.”

Thank you for helping neighbors in crisis find hope and joy this Christmas. Without the generous support of friends like you, people like Huwaida would have nowhere else to turn. To learn more, please visit SalvationArmyLex.org

Many neighbors who come to us at Christmastime are already struggling with the survival basics such as food, clothing, and shelter. They long for a special Christmas for their own families, only to find their budgets stretched to the point that even the smallest of holiday joys are out of reach.

We have been amazed by the powerful blessings that have come about because of your incredible generosity. When neighbors in need are united with neighbors like you who can help, hope and joy are born in the heart of a child. We at The Salvation Army see the hope on each child’s face when they receive gifts on Christmas day—gifts that you provide.

Your compassion makes a Christmas celebration possible for families who are struggling. Because of you, hundreds of families are touched during this holiday season with renewed hope and joy!

Thank you again for sharing your love with those in desperate need!

May God Bless You,

“It’s a blessing from God that we have a new hope opened in front of us to start a new life.”

“Here, God doesn’t forget anybody.”

“My wife and I started taking our grandkids to serve there so they could see the need and experience the blessing of serving others,” Jack says.

A Family of Angels Brings Christmas Joy

With four children and 10 grandchildren, Christmas is a time of celebration and togetherness for Jack and his family. When he and his wife heard about the Angel Tree program, they thought about all the children who were missing out on Christmas—and they couldn’t help but do something about it.

Rather than volunteering alone, they made giving back a part of their family Christmas tradition. “My wife and I started taking our grandkids to serve there so they could see the need and experience the blessing of serving others,” Jack says. Ten years later, this tradition is still going strong.

Over the years, Jack’s family has formed many memories while volunteering, but there’s one that sticks out in Jack’s mind. It’s the memory of a mother in scrubs who stopped by to pick up Christmas toys for her children. “She had an old, rusted-out pickup truck,” he explains. “The back was filled with aluminum cans she was collecting for extra cash.”

After Jack brought out the gifts and loaded them into her truck, the woman looked at him with tears and said, “My husband got injured at work, and we’re surviving on my income. My kids didn’t think they’d have Christmas…you don’t know what this means to me.”

Many other moms are struggling to give their children a special Christmas this year. Thanks to families like Jack’s and generous friends like you, they can find the support

they need at The Salvation Army. “I believe in TSA and what they’re doing,” says Jack, “I’m glad to be able to help, and I’m grateful for all the support they receive from the community.”

You can ensure a portion of your life’s work continues advancing your highest values by leaving The Salvation Army in your estate plans.

You will have peace of mind knowing that your estate will be distributed exactly as you want. And you will have joy in your heart knowing that struggling children and families will receive the help they need to overcome all manner of trials for generations to come.
