CHRISTINE SEIFERT was born 1954 in Bamberg, Germany. When she was only two years old,the family immigrated to Tanzania to work on a coffee plantation on the slopes of Mt.

Kilimanjaro. She was sent to boarding school in Nairobi, Kenya. This privileged life came to anabrupt end when, in 1973 coffee farms in the Moshi /Arusha area were nationalised. The familyhad no choice, but to leave the country and returned to Germany.

After this, Christine spent many years in different European countries, as well as three years inSouth Africa. She started painting and with time it became the centre of her life. In 2002 Christinereturned to Tanzania on a safari and the overwhelming experience triggered off her ‘Savannahs’.Every year she spends some time in Eastern Africa. 2008 she returned, together with her husband,Chris von Zastrow, to Kigali in Rwanda. Since June 2011 they have been transferred to Lausannein Switzerland where Christine will continue with her work and travels to East Africa.

Christine’s unique technique of using watercolour and ink on paper laid on canvas, evolved from her desire to keep the free,sketch-like expressions, even on a larger scale.

2009 ‘Zanzibar Sketchbook’ was published by Gallery Publications, Zanzibar, Tanzania2011 Participation in the East African Art Biennale in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

The diverse works of Christine Seifert are exhibited in Galleries in Europe and East Africa and have collectors aroundthe world.
