Our movement also included names like James O’Kelly (Methodist), Eli Smith (Baptist), and Barton Stone (Presbyterian), and though these men had obvious theological differences they still made great efforts to respect and love each other as Christ commanded Christians to do. The main theme carried by the Restoration Movement is a quote by Thomas Campbell, “Where the Scripture speaks we shall speak and where scripture is silent we shall also be silent.” A common theme I see in our churches nowadays is that things are good the way they are. why should we reach out to other churches or other Christians even in my own body? Campbell and Stone both spent great amounts of time trying to hold together or build unity in the church, while also being concerned about truly living what the Bible taught. These men were concerned about proper interpretation of the Word, but even more concerned about UNITY of the body! How could the later generations miss the point? In a generation enamored to find the truth and fact in life, they totally missed the point. Campbell should get some credit because he offered a sense of structure and a road of thought for the church to follow. The Declaration and Address written by Thomas was lived out in his life and proved to be truth among the independent church who claimed to be Christians Only. Not Baptist or Presbyterian, they were Christians! By throwing out the thought of the exclusive nature of denominationalism, tradition and anything that can get in the way of the mission of Jesus, the church can function ideally at its best. It is this concept that greatly needs to be restored in our culture today. In order to let Jesus be the real center each Christian must become comfortable being uncomfortable in order to see the kind of unity in the church that Jesus started! We must be willing to give much for the sake of Biblical Unity, and make sure that you are promoting a spirit of inclusion. One must seek the Holy Spirit, let every Christian represent their differences, and celebrate them at the same time, as He guides us through the rough collisions and trials associated with being followers of Jesus Christ. Instead of letting the hurt pile up, it needs to be dealt with by discussing it. The Great Mystery of the Gospel through the Spirit’s leading is the only way this is possible (Ephesians 2-3). The point of the Restoration Movement was to get away from the bonds of the churches which were dictating traditions instead of the straight Words of God found in the Bible. We need to seek Christ centered unity among all Christians. Christ is the head of the church! Why would we fight against those who are on the same team? So, strap on your hard hat and enjoy the ride, because the outcome of following Jesus will be heavenly! Blessings, Chris

A Mission Moment

Kulpahar Kids Home and School, Kulpahar, India, is one of the

missions supported by members of First Christian Church. Kulpahar

Kids Home was established in 1947 when the first very sick child

was brought to Dolly Chitwood (Bari Aunti) and Leah Moshier

(Choti Aunti). Sosun (the first little girl) turned 70 in June, 2017,

and so the Kids Home is 70 years old. Christian Church/Church of Christ Mission in India is still in

operation. Linda joined Dolly and Leah and they became the only mothers the some 800 babies /

toddlers would ever know. Kulpahar has 32 acres of land with 28 residences, a small dispensary with

lab, 2 generators, the school and fields for growing fruits and vegetables for the present hostel

boarders. They have 94 hostel boarders who pay no fees at the school as they come from poor

Christian families and a few of their 800 original kids still live there since coming there in early

childhood. Several will remain there indefinitely due to mental challenges. Kulpahar still takes in

boarders of poor Indian families, otherwise they would never have an education. Six of their

boarders were recently married at the school.

They continue to ask for our prayer support and when possible, financial support for the school.

Through building these young lives these children are spreading God’s love over India as they return

home after their education and tell others about Christ. Check out Kulpahar Kids home at this
