We all thank God for the unity God has manifestedamong the Icelandic Christians who are preparing
for ChristDay on September 27, 2014.
The ChristDay movement takes God’s promise seriously: “If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
The ChristDay movement started 2004 in Basel, Switzerland, when 2,786 flag bearers and their prayer partners, representing all the municipalities of Switzerland, committed themselves to praying
continuously for their municipalities - for both the authorities as well as the residents. After 10 years they still continue to pray and bless their communities according to the promise of Proverbs 11:11a, “A city is exalted by the blessing of the righteous ones.” Four years after Switzerland, Finnish Christians also launched a ChristDay movement. In Turku 30 leaders of all major denominations asked for forgiveness and prayed for the healing of the country, in front of the prayer representatives from all municipalities and ethnic groups in Finland.
Another four years later, ChristDay Prayer Coverage was launched in Tallinn, Estonia. The prayer leaders of the municipalities received the flags from the official authorities as a sign of unity between church and government. Watching what happened in Switzerland, Finland and Estonia, leaders from many nations caught the vision to launch similar ChristDay movements; among them were Iceland, Russia, South Korea and several nations of Francophone Africa.

ChristDay is much more than a day, but it starts with a day when Christians of all backgrounds pray according to the promises of 2 Chronicles 7:14. Christians together seek God’s face for forgiveness and healing of the country through repentance, confession and (re-)commitment.
ChristDay is a growing movement of transformation of whole countries. It is Christians of
different church backgrounds, generations and ethnic groups taking responsibility over their land. It is a strategic prayer movement with the goal of setting up a permanent prayer structure/network that covers an entire geographical area. As a result local believers reach out continuously to their neighbours with the love of Christ - transforming individuals, families and whole communities.

ChristDay staff know a remarkable story - where united prayer did not ignite a spiritual movement until it first stopped a natural movement. And millions of people in Europe were very grateful that it did.
The eruptions of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull in 2010 not only threatened Iceland but also a large part of Europe, even bringing air traffic to a standstill. Several months before this volcano broke out, 11 Icelandic leaders of different church backgrounds took part in the Geneva Leadership Forum run by the Swiss ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ. There the leaders from Iceland were encouraged to take spiritual authority over their land. After their return they assembled Christian leaders to pray before the House of Parliament, confessing sins and committing their country to Christ - according to the promise of 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
Then they sent a delegation of two men and one woman to the by-then very active volcano. This group of three commanded the volcano in the name of Jesus to stop its destructive activity. Within 48 hours the volcano totally ceased erupting, much to the surprise of experts, who had forewarned that eruptions could even grow much stronger as they had in past centuries.
At the same time the church of Iceland was going through a difficult time of purification. Many
unpleasant things were coming to the surface but were dealt with. Since that time and for the past four yours, about 20 Christian leaders have been meeting every week in a chapel in Reykjavik to pray for the revival of their country. Now they readily testify that bad things--like an economic crisis or the eruptions of a volcano--brought them together to pray earnestly for their country.
In earlier easier times, many Christians would not even meet, let alone agree to pray or plan together. Taking one more step, they have decided to set up a nationwide network of cells of prayer and blessing at ChristDay in Reykjavik, scheduled for September 27, 2014.
The vision for this ChristDay movement is that God would not only transform Iceland, but will use their country as a role model of transformation by prayer for other countries. These changed Christ followers believe that they are just the first of many places to be stricken by deep economic crises. But their understanding of a crisis is so much different than it was - just a few years ago!
… and stops them!
Christian leaders in Iceland meet every Wednesday in a chapel in Reykjavik to pray for revival.

God works through the prayers of His people to ignite spiritual movements. As Spirit-filled disciples “pray without ceasing,” the Lord increases faith, causes growth and brings about fruitfulness to glorify Himself (John 15:1-17).
Stories are the building blocks of all movements. The early church multiplied as the stories about Jesus spread everywhere. It continues to grow alongside stories of what He is doing now.
The Global Prayer team invites you to:► Share stories of God answering prayer. Please email a brief summary of the story to [email protected] and we will contact you before passing along your story.► Keep current on a selection of Campus Crusade prayer needs. One part of the worldwide movement is highlighted in each issue of this prayer journal.
