TERM 3 HIGHLIGHTS Happy Spring Recreate crew! It’s been a chilly winter, but we’ve had such a blast on all of our programmes. We’ve been so thrilled to see everyone embrace the season and join us in our appreciation for the colder months. Spring is here, and summer is on its way, along with an exciting assortment of Recreate programmes! Some highlights from Term 3: Throughout July our enthusiastic Holiday Programme participants lazed in the luxurious Hanmer Hot Pools, enjoyed some new releases at the movies, glided gracefully on ice skates, and cooked their own mouth-watering hot chips. The August Twizel crew enjoyed a bluebird, Spring-like day walking up to view the impressive Tasman Glacier and learned about Aoraki expeditions at the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre. Our first South Island Snow Adventure Weekend was a great success, with some flexibility allowing us to ski and snowboard on both of the scheduled days, as well as squeeze in a short but beautiful bushwalking adventure! Our Girls Club enjoyed a wonderful evening out for dinner and attending the Romeo and Juliet Ballet; we were all enthralled by the beautiful dancers and thoroughly enjoyed the performance. This term we’ll be offering short introductory Junior programmes for those who would like a gradual transition into Recreate. These programmes are for young people between the ages of 10 and 15. Check out the information below and get in touch if you’d like to know more. CHRISTCHURCH TERM 4 Welcome to our Term 4 newsletter! Please join me in welcoming Alex Pene back to Recreate. JUNIORS 10 - 15J

Hi, my name is Annika and I’m 22 years old and have completed my Bachelors degree in Special Needs Education in Cologne this year.

I would like to gain more practical experience during my stay in NZ before continuing with my Master studies in April. I enjoy meeting friends, travelling and discovering new places. Also, I love being outdoors and doing sports like climbing, hiking and canoeing. I enjoy a lot to work and play with children and youth. After graduating I was in Cameroon for one year and worked as a volunteer in a centre for blind children and youth which was a unique experience for me.

I am looking forward to meeting new people in NZ, getting to know the Recreate participants and together have a great time exploring the beautiful landscapes. I am sure that working with Recreate will be a lot of fun and a good opportunity for me to learn a lot.

MID WEEK OPPORTUNITIES

LIFE SKILLS

Planting to Plate8-week module

The Life Skills course is a self-directed day programme focused on developing confidence in certain skills required for independence, socialisation, healthy living, and entering the workforce.

This term we have developed a module involving vegetable growing and cooking activities, focused on developing practical knowledge and skills in growing your own food, shopping cost-effectively for ingredients within a budget, cooking and baking meals for yourself and others, and hosting guests. The course is limited to 4 young people of a similar age/ability and the structure of the term will be self-directed by those who participate, with guidance from a Recreate facilitator. The facilitator will oversee the course, assisting each participant in deciding on an action plan to develop skills through their activity preferences. Life Skills is targeted at the post-school, young adult age group. Expressions of interest will dictate whether we organise a course for youth (15-25 years) or young adults (25-35 years) each term. Past participants are most welcome to join us for another term. It will run one day a week at 18 Bath Street, South City. The course is 8 weeks long, with day of the week TBC. The cost is $80 full course deposit plus 8 carer support days. If you wish to express interest in the programme or gain more information, please email [email protected]

We are looking to employ a motivated individual to help us keep our van clean for each new adventure!

If you are interested in this job, please send a resume through to [email protected] to express your interest. We will conduct interviews with applicants in October.

CHRISTMAS PARTY BBQ16th December - 5.30-7.30pmIt’s our end of year celebration BBQ! We would like to invite your whole family to join us for a lovely day outside in the park meeting other Recreate families, playing games, and enjoying a mouth-watering spread from the cook-up. Please bring chairs, a plate to share/meat, an outdoor BBQ if you have one, and your favourite outdoor games! This event is available to all of our Recreate participants so all ages are welcome! We can’t wait to see you there!
