CHRIST THE KING SCHOOL PARENT BULLETIN PLEASANT HILL, CALIFORNIA VOLUME I NUMBER 15 November 27, 2012 Dear School Families, As we celebrate our parish’s name- the Feast of Christ the King, we give thanks for all that we are called to be and do as members of this community. We are called to respond to those in need, to those who are without food, housing or work, to those who are suffering from mental illness, to those who have recently lost a loved one, and to those who need our prayers. Let us take the time and celebrate the feast of Christ the King. Please pray for the 98 year Great Grandmother of Courtney (Gr. 7) and Cole (Gr. 4) McClaskey who was called to heaven over the weekend. If you have a child in Grades K, 1, 4, 7 or 8, we ask that you be mindful of sending in any kind of food products with nuts, due to the fact that there are students in these grades who have serious peanut/nut allergies. If it is a birthday snack, please let the teacher know what the ingredients are in the product so that all the students can participate in receiving the snack. Nut/peanut allergies are very serious and we as a school want to take every precaution to insure a very healthy and safe environment. We know we will receive your cooperation in this matter. Some more suggestions for healthy snacks for school: bananas, avocados, dried apricots, cheese sticks, carrots, whole grain crackers, hardboiled egg, fruit, and yogurt. More ideas to come… Benchmark 9.2: This trimester we are working 9.2: Guidance services, wellness programs, behavior management programs, and ancillary services provide the necessary support for students to successfully complete the school program. Students and siblings playing on the play structure after school must have direct parental supervision. CLUB CTK and/or Religious Education personnel cannot be responsible for the safety of your children. If you have things to do before going home in the afternoon, please either take your children with you or check them into CLUB CTK (students only). If your children would like to play while you visit, please remain with them and have them in your view at all times. All play structure guidelines apply to after school use by students and siblings. Thank you for your attention to this matter. ITBS TESTING RESULTS GRADES 2-8: Included in the report card envelope (with report cards) for students in grades 2-8 are the results of your child’s ITBS Tests taken in September. A school wide report will be going home showing we are above the average range and working hard with all our students to be successful learners. A letter from our Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Mrs. Linda Basman (electronic copy) is also included today’s downloads. The student’s score sheet indicates areas of strength and areas that need mastering. We find this sheet very helpful in reviewing areas of strengths and areas of growth needed. We hope this helps give you a better overall picture of your student’s results and achievements. If your child scored in the 50 percentile range in any area, he/she is a typical student at that grade level and are considered working at grade level. This year’s test was a newer version and therefore there is no longitudinal study given .

THANK YOUS: What can we say about the Book Fair! A great deal of time, art work and effort went into producing an inviting atmosphere in which to browse looking for reading material. A huge thank you to Mrs. Marshall, Mrs. Quintanilla-Sanchez, Mrs. Carroll, Mrs. Beel and the many volunteers. We all benefit from this great fundraiser. There was a special collection for Queen of All Saints in Concord and St. Peter Martyr in Pittsburg who are in need of library books. We thank those of you who contributed to that worthy cause. We would also like to thank all of the holiday bakers who made pies and donated them for the Pie Sale last Tuesday. They not only looked great, they tasted delicious as well!
