FAITH AND YOUR FAMILY –Celebrating Mary-January 1 is more than just New Year’s Day – it is a Holy Day on which we celebrate Mary as the Mother of God. On this day, we are reminded of the role that the Blessed Virgin played in the plan for our salvation. As we begin another year, we draw inspiration from the selfless love of Mary, who never hesitated to do the will of God. And we trust in her prayers to God for us, that we might, as the years pass, become more like her. Begin this new year by dedicating your family to Christ through Mary on this New Year’s Day: Pray the rosary together. Attend Mass together. And talk together about how you want to enrich your spiritual lives in the coming year to grow closer to God and more like Christ through the example of Mary. CHRIST THE KING BIBLE STUDY-”Ephesians Discover Your Inheritance” Paul’s letter to the Ephesians reveals many remarkable gifts that we as Christians are given in the Church. This letter tells us about the nature of the Church – as a body, as a household, as a mystery, as a communion, as a bride, and as an army. It shows us the great inheritance that awaits us as sons and daughters, adopted fully into the family of God. It reveals how God’s great love for us can transform our daily lives if we allow it. This is an 8 session study that will begin at Christ the King on Friday, January 13th at 9:00 a.m. To register, or for more information on the study, please contact Marian at 203-268-8791

CALENDARS/2017 Christ the King calendars are available by the doors of the Church. Please help yourself. We thank Cyril Mullins funeral home for sponsoring them. HOUSE BLESSING– If you are interested in having your Home Blessed, please call Fr. Walsh in the parish office at 203-268-8695 to arrange a date and time. SACRISTANS NEEDED– There is a need for volunteers to help with the Church linens. Anyone wishing to help, please call Mary Ann at 261-4378. We are grateful for all our volunteers. THANK YOU to everyone that purchased poinsettias, wreaths and kissing balls. A BIG Thank you to Jan Valluzzo for coordinating the sale of the plants and wreaths. The Church made a $128.00 profit from the sale. VOLUNTEER TRAINING AT CONNECTICUT HOSPICE, INC-The Connecticut Hospice is sponsoring volunteer orientation and training this winter in our Shelton Home Care Office. If you or someone you know is looking for an opportunity to serve others in your community, we would like to hear from you. Our homecare and nursing home patients and families are in need of your care and support. You can fill your hours by in-home companionship, provide spiritual care and bereavement service, help in the arts, Reiki, Pet Therapy, or meet transportation needs. Contact Joan Cullen at 203-315-7510 or [email protected].

The Tuesday evening Rosary Group will not meet now until the month of March, 2017. They will resume on Tuesday, March 14, 2017.

DEFENDING OUR RELIGIOUS LIBERTY-The Catholic Church is not asking for special treatment when it comes to the federal healthcare mandate, she is simply asking that every American’s right to religious freedom be protected. This right is not only about our ability to go to Mass on Sunday, or to pray the rosary at home. It is about adhering to the tenets of our faith, so that we can contribute to the common good of all Americans. If you haven’t done so already, please voice your opposition to the federal health care mandate by calling U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Sylvia Mathews Burwell at 202-205-5445, and your elected representatives. Let them know that the mandate is in violation of our First Amendment right to religious freedom. THANK YOU to our parishioners who made a donation to the Christmas Altar flowers in memory of their loved ones.
