“A man named John was sent by God…” (John 1:6) Those who take part in the story of salvation end up getting sent. The prophets and kings of the Old Testament were sent to lead, to challenge, and to console the people of God. John the Baptist, the greatest of all those born of women, (Matthew 11:11) was sent at the end of the Old Testament ‐ that time of waiting ‐ in order to point out
the one who would baptize with the Holy Spirit.
“But when the fullness of time came, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to ransom those under the law, so that we might receive adoption. As proof that you are children, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying out Abba, Father!” (Galatians 4:4‐6)
The Father is the one who sends. In the first place, He sends the Son and the Holy Spirit. Saint Irenaeus, in 170 AD, called the Son and the Holy Spirit “the two hands of the Father,” through which God the Father embraces us, through which He shapes and heals and restores our fallen humanity.
Those who are touched by the hands of God are caught up in the same mission as the Son and the Holy Spirit. As our familiarity and intimacy with the Holy Trinity ‐ Father, Son, and Holy Spirit ‐ grows, so too does our desire to fulfill God’s mission of love for the salvation of the world. The story of salvation passes through the relationships and the events of my story, of my family, of my job, of my life.
Discipleship and mission are two sides of the same coin. Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, cannot imagine a Church that is not missionary, that does not go out of itself toward those who need the light and the love that we have met in Christ. We live to the extent that we go out of ourselves, to the extent that we love others with the love of God.
Where does this mission come from? When we were “Baptized in the Holy Spirit” at our Baptism and in our Confirmation, we became members of the Body of Christ and temples of the Holy Spirit. The mission of the Church has the same source as the mission of the Son and the Holy Spirit who live in us: the Father’s love for the world. We seek in prayer to have the same concern and love for the world, for those who are around us, as the Father has. We ask the Lord to share with us something of His love for those who are lost and alone, without meaning and purpose in this world.
“A man named John was sent by God…” (John 1:6) We could add: “A man named (fill in the blank with your name) was sent by God…” “A woman named (fill in the blank with your name) was sent by God…”
To whom is God sending you this Christmas? Who are you inviting to come to church with you? Who needs your love and closeness this Christmas? Spend a moment and ask God our Father. I’m sure He has someone in mind. In Christ, Pastor

The 5 Year Celebration Continues…
Thanks be to God for the continuing year end support of the Saint Peregrine Cancer Shrine Endowment Fund! The Endowment Fund began the year with a balance of $269,043.18. In the month of November, $21,868.00 has been donated to bring the total Endowment Fund balance to $290,911.18. There are additional gift dollars that will be sent to the Catholic Community Foundation and added to this balance weekly. Our goal is to remain on track with previous annual donations that have totaled approximately $40,000.00. Your gifts have added to the growth of the Endowment Fund, ensuring that Christ the King will reach the long term goal of a Saint Peregrine Cancer Shrine Endowment Fund of $2 million! Thank you! We continue to encourage gifts through the end of the year. Every $100 donation generates a raffle ticket for a $2,000 US Airways Travel Voucher. There are many ways to make your gift; Two of the easiest and most convenient methods are through the use of the Kiosk in the back of the church, or online through the Shrine website.
The Giving Kiosk is located on the north wall of the church lobby. Use of the kiosk is very simple: 1. Choose your gift amount. 2. Choose whether this is a one‐time or recurring gift. 3. Swipe your credit or debit card.
The St. Peregrine Cancer Shrine website is: www.cancershrine.org
Donation cards may also be found at the back of the church next to the Kiosk. Please follow the directions on the card if this is your desired method of giving. At this time of the year we reflect on the gift of Christ to the world. We humbly acknowledge that all gifts come through Him and we are thankful for the opportunity to do the work of the Universal Church through the ministry of the St. Peregrine Cancer Shrine. We, as a community, pray with gratitude that we are able to bring strength for the journey to our brothers and sisters struggling with cancer.
Celebrate the Birth of our Lord by making a year end gift to Christ the King.
Are you considering a year end gift? Where is your heart called to give? We have received the greatest gift of our Lord and know as His disciples that “Wherever your treasure lies, there your heart will be.” Luke 12:32‐48
Share a gift from your heart through your tithe, a gift to the
Christ the King Catholic School Endowment or the St. Peregrine Cancer Shrine Endowment Fund.

HAND CARVED in BETHLEHEM
PLEASE STOP BY THE TABLES OF RELIGIOUS WARES (Nativity set, rosaries, statues, crucifixes, charms, etc.)
AFTER ALL THE MASSES THE WEEK END OF December 20 & 21.
Ayman Khair is representing about 140 Christian families from Bethlehem. These families have been dependent upon sales of their hand carved religious articles to tourists of the Holy Land; however, due to the conflict in the Middle East, the tourism has been cut off. In order to survive, they have turned to Christian communities in the United States to purchase their articles.
These hand carved religious articles are spectacular. Carved from wood of the sacred Olive tree, this workmanship has been traditional for these families for hundreds of years. It is hoped that through the efforts of Mr. Khair these families will have a little income and will be able to stay living in the Holy Land. Amazingly enough, the Christian population has dropped from 22% to less than 2% in the last 30 years. Thank you in advance for your support.
Note : These Religious Articles make great Christmas gifts!

Pastor
