Fearless Sowing Investing our resources for the sake of the

kingdom is risky. It takes courage. As we sow the seeds of our time, talent, and treasure, some will fall on deaf ears. Others will fall on ears which are somewhat receptive. And our resources will be sown in places where some will accept them and use them and benefit from them until the worldly attitudes of society creep up around them. We will be disappointed, frustrated, even ridiculed at times.

But thanks to God, sometimes our resources will be accepted by deep, receptive, productive people. Some will receive our investments of time, talent, and treasure and happily accept them and use them and benefit from them—and produce fruit for the kingdom because of our investments. And because of our willingness to seek out the best investments of our resources, the kingdom of God will have an unbelievable harvest.

How would you like to get a 30-, 60-, or 100-fold return on the seed you plant in your garden this spring? Better yet, how would you like to get a 30-, 60-, or 100-fold return on the investment you put in the bank? Yes, that’s a 3,000, 6,000 or 10,000 percent interest rate! It’s not possible to get such interest rates at the bank. But it is possible when it comes to the kingdom of God!

Think about how God is calling you to sow seeds for the kingdom. Are you sowing with an attitude of defeatism or with resilience? Are you sowing haphazardly or with purpose?

--Excerpt from Fearless Generosity, A Stewardship Resource of the ELCA

Rising Strong™ in Christ

8th Annual Women’s Retreat Christ Lutheran Church

February 23rd & 24th, 2018 @ Gustavus Adolphus College

Presenter: Rev. Sarah Ciavarri

Christ rose so that we too can rise strong! But that doesn’t mean there aren’t still hard falls we take in life. What does it take to get back up? Are we stuck in ways of thinking that don’t serve the Body of Christ or us in life-giving ways? When we’ve been caught by hard emotions, do we try to avoid them? Through short lectures, self-exploration, and small group discussion we will develop new critical awareness and practices to strengthen resiliency. Connections to faith, prayer, Scripture, and theology are woven throughout.

Retreat Time: Friday evening 6:00 p.m. – Saturday 4:00 p.m. Cost: $60.00/per Registrant (Includes overnight lodging/linens, materials, snacks, breakfast & lunch on Saturday – Friday evening meal on your own.)

Rev. Sarah Ciavarri is a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator-Consultant and a Lutheran pastor. See Flyer for Rev. Ciavarri’s Bio information.

Registration is limited to 20 participants! Sign up today to reserve your spot!

Souper Bowl of Caring on February 4th More than 28 years ago, the Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single youth group:

“Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those without a bowl of soup to eat.”

Since that day, more than $135 million has been raised for local charikes across the country through Souper Bowl of Caring. It uses the energy around our nakon’s largest sporkng event to mobilize and inspire youth and their congregakons to fight hunger and poverty in their own communikes. All Souper Bowl donakons will go directly to The McLeod Emergency Food Shelf. CLC will report the total number of pounds given to Souper Bowl of Caring so our students become part of the nakonal efforts. Through this experience, they learn the power of working together to make a difference in the lives of others. Our collecEon will take place on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 4th, 2018 (or drop off donakons at church any kme before the 4th). McLeod Emergency Food Shelf has requested donaEons of varieEes of canned “ready-to-eat” soups, but any food donaEon will be accepted.

Thank you for your parkcipakon and for helping make our 2018 Souper Bowl of Caring a success!
