Character Counts at Chris Hadfield PS The Character Attribute theme for the month of June is
Inclusiveness. Students can show inclusiveness this month by:
treating everyone with respect and value; approaching situations free of prejudice;
respecting differences; reaching out to others in a fair and equitable manner.
It's going to be another great month for our Chris Hadfield Astros to treat each other
with kindness, caring and respect!
Our Inclusiveness Recognition Assembly will take place on Tuesday, June 23rd
at 9:30 a.m. in the gym. Parents are very welcome to attend.
CHILDREN'S SAFETY FIRST! Parents, please help us to keep your children safe by following our school safety rules and discussing them with your children. Parents who use the Kiss „N‟ Ride in
the mornings, please do not arrive until 8:45 a.m. as there is no teacher supervision until that time.
It's great to see so many families walk
to and from school each day. Please remember to stay on the school
sidewalks and only cross at the designated crosswalks when entering and leaving school property Remember that the long driveway
into the school is for buses only Parents are asked to park in the
parking lot at the front of the school
Creation of Hope
This year, the Chris Hadfield P.S.
community has worked together to raise
funds to support Kikima, a small village
in East Africa.
Your support for this terrific
learning opportunity for your child(ren)
has resulted in funds of
almost $2,000 being raised!
Volunteer
Appreciation
On Wednesday June 24th, Chris Hadfield
P.S. Staff will be recognizing all of our
volunteers for their amazing contributions
to our school. Each and every day,
volunteers support our students in reading
programs, assist teachers in their
classrooms and help to keep our students
safe on field trips.
All of the wonderful things that happen at
Chris Hadfield P.S. would not be possible
without the support of our volunteers.
PIZZA DAYS June Pizza Days will take
place on the 9th, 16th, and
23rd.There will not be a pizza day on
June 2nd.
Thank you for your continued support!
BEING ON TIME IS A LIFE SKILL
It is very important to be on time for school.
It shows that you value school and have a
positive attitude towards schoolwork. When
children arrive to school on time:
They do not miss out on instruction
They are not embarrassed by being late
They are more relaxed and ready to learn
When children are late, they become anxious,
upset and it can be disruptive
to those already at work.
Please help your child(ren) get the most out
of their learning.
LET‟S ALL WORK TOGETHER TO HELP REDUCE THE NUMBER OF LATE STUDENTS AT CHRIS HADFIELD PS!
Chris Hadfield P.S. School Council Reflections for 14/15
A big “Thank You” goes to Co-Chairs Erin Caithness and Lubna Alhares for their leadership and commitment on behalf of all Chris Hadfield P.S. families. We very much look forward to building upon the extremely positive partnership that has been established between parents and the school.
Class Placement for 2015/2016 The creation of classes for September
takes much time and thought. In
determining the placement of students in
classes, we take into consideration the
following factors:
of each child;
of each child;
balance.
This is a highly collaborative process
where teachers engage with one another
and have professional conversations.
Class placement decisions are tentative
and may change during enrollment
re-organization in late September,
Class lists will be posted on classroom
windows by our playground area on the
morning of Tuesday, September 8th.
LIBRARY NEWS I want to thank all the boys and girls who
participated in our Blue Spruce and Silver
Birch reading programs this year. The winner for all of Ontario has been
announced. The winner for Blue Spruce is.... The Day my Mom came to
Kindergarten! The winner for Silver Birch is... Kung Pow Chicken! I’m not sure if
you noticed, but these winners are the same books that won for our school!
Silver Birch readers - we will have our Silver Birch celebration during the 3rd
week of June. I’ll make an announcement when I know the exact date.
Boys and girls, the library will be closing soon for the summer holidays. All our
books need to be returned by Wednesday June 10th. Please make sure to
bring everything back in good condition.
Thanks and enjoy the beautiful June weather, Ms. Brown.
Summer activities that boost learning
Kindergarten to grade 5
Sorting and stacking – Teach classification skills with dinnerware. Ask your child to match and stack dishes of similar sizes and shapes. Also have your child sort flatware – forks with forks, spoons with spoons. This is like recognizing the shapes of letters and numbers. Comic strip writing – Use comic strips to help with writing. Cut the segments of a comic strip apart and ask your child to arrange them in order. Then ask your child to fill in the words of the characters (orally or in writing). Float and sink – Encourage hypothesizing (guessing). Use several objects – soap, a dry sock, a bottle of shampoo, a wet sponge, an empty bottle. Ask your child which objects will float when dropped into water in a sink or bathtub. Then drop the objects in the water, one by one, to see what happens.
