Book of the Month

Every day I am someone else.

I am myself – I know I am myself – but I am also someone else.

It has always been like this.

Each morning, A wakes up in a different body. There’s never any warning about who it will be, but A is used to that. Never get too

attached. Avoid being noticed. Do not interfere.

And that’s fine – until A wakes up in the body of Justin and meets Justin’s girlfriend, Rhiannon. From that moment, the rules by which

A has been living no longer apply. Because finally A has found someone he wants to be with – every day . . .

Book Group This month we welcomed 8 Vale students from Year 7 to the Worthing High School library. They are taking part in our first joint book group with a local school and this was their second visit. The students thought our library was fantastic and spent the first half of the visit excitedly looking around selecting books they would like to read off the shelves. Many went home with a long list of books to pass on to their parents. The aim of the joint book group is to introduce the students to the amazing array of fantastic children’s fiction there is available to them and to encourage them to read different and more stretching books. On their first visit our students in Year 9 book group gave enthusiastic reviews of their favourite reads. These books were then donated to the Vale School library so that their students can enjoy them too.

We also gave the Year 7 Vale students a goodie book bag of pencils and bookmarks and also the first joint book club read. We are looking forward to the Vale School students returning after the half term to discuss the book we are both reading and to take part in other shared reading activities.

The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 is the first book in Sue Townsend's brilliantly funny Adrian Mole series. Friday January 2nd I felt rotten today. Next year I could be in a children's home. Meet Adrian Mole, a hapless teenager providing an unabashed, pimples-and-all glimpse into adolescent life. Writing candidly about his parents' marital troubles, the dog, his life as a tortured poet and 'misunderstood intellectual', Adrian's painfully honest diary is still hilarious and compelling reading thirty years after it first appeared.

From Ancient Greece to the present day, Trivium 21c explores whether a contemporary trivium (Grammar, Dialectic, and Rhetoric) can unite progressive and traditionalist institutions, teachers, politicians and parents in the common pursuit of providing a great education for our children in 21st Century. Education policy and practice is a battleground. Traditionalists argue for the teaching of a privileged type of hard knowledge and deride soft skills. Progressives deride learning about great works of the past preferring `21c skills (21st Century Skills) such as creativity and critical thinking. Whilst looking for a school for his daughter, the author became frustrated by schools inability to value knowledge, as well as creativity, foster discipline alongside free-thinking, and value citizenship alongside independent learning. Drawing from his work as a creative teacher Robinson finds
