BEACHO I have chosen to use the beach as a prime location for my music

video because I feel that the location represents a sense of tranquillity and freedom. As beaches are very open and plain, I think that ending the video/narrative in an area like this will reflect the conclusive tone to the video/end of the story. Moreover, the beach heavily juxtaposes the other locations of my video as it is not busy like London, nor comfortable like my home, but instead it is a vulnerable place to mirror the vulnerability of the main subject’s emotions. Additionally, the beach seemed like a good location because it would create a variety to my shots, I like the simplicity of the setting and as it allows more focus to be on the character and the dramatic ending moments of the song. Furthermore, using the beach is an intertextual reference to the film ‘A Long Way Down’ (Pascal Chaumeil, 2014) as I the film the song I am using ‘Youth’ – Daughter, is used during a dramatic moment on the beach with one of the main characters, therefore, I relate the beach to this film and song and it is a song influence for my choice in setting.

LONDONO London is a key location for me as it is very busy and congested to

represent the flurry of messy emotions and thoughts of the main character. In addition, London offers a large variety of places to travel too, each one offering something slightly different. Also, due to the large amount of transport it will be useful for me to travel around London using the trains etc, this is important for my video as the main character will use the trains to travel into London and go on an emotional and a physical journey to the end. Furthermore, London is very accessible and offers locations from parks to buildings to towns and so many more.

HOME/GARDENO The final location I have decided upon is my

house/garden as I believe it provides a cosey and warm feel to the video. It will be represent the comfortable and happy memories of the main subject as it gives a safe, homely feel to them to imply better times. Additionally, the lighting in my conservatory is very good and does not require artificial light to keep with the simply cosey feel. I think it is another good contrast to the other locations as I wanted each of them to offer something else: the beach is calming, London is chaotic and the house is comforting. The colours are warming and the rooms are open, which helps with the lighting and gives me and the subject’s room to move around in.
