Schedule Information

See page 3 of this guide for tips on entering your course requests. All students need to schedule 8 units and four alternate courses. Alternate choices will be used in the event a scheduling conflict occurs that cannot be resolved, or if classes are full or not offered. Schedule Changes We base our master course schedule on a combination of student requests, district needs, and efficient allocation of district resources. It is important to understand that we are making commitments based on the course selections made by the student. Therefore, the school expects students and parents to honor their commitments. Students will have the opportunity to review their course selections in the spring of the year. If a student would like to request a change in selection, a request needs to be made in writing by April 15. Forms will be available in Student Services and on the Student Services website. Schedule Corrections: After April 15, the only time that a schedule change can be made is if there is a need for a correction in a student's schedule. These include:

an incomplete schedule a prerequisite not met missing a graduation/college admission

requirement inappropriate course placement as agreed upon

by the teacher

Teacher Changes: Requests to change teachers will not be honored unless extreme extenuating circumstances are present. Administrative approval is required. Removal from a class or dropping a class (unless initiated by a teacher for academic reasons) will result in a W/F on the student's transcript and an F will be calculated into their grade point average.

Course Audit Information: Students have the option of auditing an AP class. Students will have up to one week after the posting of first quarter grades to change to audit status. Auditing allows the student to learn all of the concepts without the fear of a lesser grade because of the difficulty of the course. However, the student must earn a passing grade. If the student does not pass the course, an F will be listed on their transcript.

College Credit Opportunities More information regarding these opportunities are on the Student Services website under College Planning. Advanced Placement Courses: These are college-level courses taught within our building. Students may receive college credit if they score a 3, 4 or 5 on AP Exams in May. Cooperative Academic Partnership Program (CAPP): UW-Oshkosh courses taught by high school staff. Students can earn college credit and are responsible for cost of these credits (approximately $100 per credit). Transcripted Credit courses offer students the opportunity to earn both high school and technical college credit. IT Academy is open to juniors and seniors. Upon completion, students receive 2.25 high school elective credits and 9 credits at CVTC. Project Lead the Way (PLTW) applies science, technology, and math through a project-based, hands-on approach to solve complex problems. Students may have the opportunity to earn college credit. Early College Credit and Start College Now Programs: These programs allow students to take one or more courses at an institution of higher education.

Important Information on Entering

Course Selections into Infinite Campus

Input your course requests into Infinite Campus now through January 9.

1. Entering Courses into Infinite Campus has changed from last year. Screenshot instructions are available on Student Services website under Scheduling Tools.

2. Searching by course number is always best.

3. Some courses will be preloaded for you. Math teachers determine placement for students entering grades 10 & 11. This is the case for some science courses as well.

4. Additional courses in academic areas will be found in that academic area drop down menu, not the elective drop down menu. If you choose additional academic courses, the number of elective courses you select will be less than the recommended number of units. This is acceptable as long as the top number (by your grade) reads 8.00/8.00 when you are finished selecting courses. See #5.

5. Make sure you have entered the correct amount of units.

You must enter 8.00/8.00 – look at the top (by your grade level). As you add courses this number will change.

6. Enter alternates in order of PRIORITY. The order in Infinite

Campus should match the order on your request form. Alternates are at the bottom of the Academic Plan page.

7. YOU MUST HIT SAVE! January 9 – Last day to input course requests and Course Request Form due to your homeroom teacher. Courses that require applications or teacher recommendations are due at this time as well:

a) AP Seminar (grade 10) b) Additional English Literature (grade 10) c) AP US History d) Publications e) School Store Work Experience f) IT Academy g) Cardinal Chromebook Repair h) Chi-Hi Happenings

Tips for Picking Classes

Requirements for Graduation: Each grade

level will receive a different Course

Request Sheet. The line on the front of the

request sheet corresponds to the number

on the back. This will give you more

information regarding courses you may

need for graduation.

Post-Secondary Plans: Keep in mind that

university requirements differ from high

school graduation requirements. A class

that meets graduation requirements in an

academic area may not meet college

admission criteria. Therefore, it is

important that students read course

descriptions carefully and choose

accordingly. Additionally, technical college

programs may have specific coursework

requirements. Failure to have met

prerequisites will delay your “program

ready status.” See online course book for

college entrance requirements.

Exploration: We are fortunate to have a

large variety of classes for students to

explore their interest areas. Check out

Programs of Study to see courses that

relate to different career areas.

Talk to your parents and teachers

regarding courses that might be a good fit

for you.

You may also use Career Cruising (log in

and password are the same ones you use

for school) to help identify some possible

interest areas.
