2016 – 2017 • “Equity” and “Instructional Leadership” are separate teams• School-Wide professional focus on Zaretta Hammond’s Culturally Responsive Teaching
and the Brain (deepening understanding and stereotypes)
2017 – 2018 • Continuation of separate teams but greater overlap in membership• Increased equity training through Beyond Diversity• Use of equity tools (working autobiographies, compass, conditions)• Completed first school-wide equity walk
2018 – 2019 • Single “Equity & Inclusion Team” formed, meeting twice-monthly• Student Voice workgroup (SOAR and student forums, repeating the student forum
process with the focus on student learning rather than sense of belonging)• High Quality Instruction workgroup (focus on equity walks and high-quality instruction)
Our vision is to affirm and inspire each and every student to learn and thrive as creators of their future world.
Culture & Climate: High Quality Instruction Work
Development of High Quality Instruction professional development scope & sequence
Three planned Equity Walks• Participation beyond the E & I Team members• Use of a tool that focuses on academic discourse• The goal being to identify roadblocks to Hispanic and black
students’ learning opportunities and places of improvement within our instructional moves
Our vision is to affirm and inspire each and every student to learn and thrive as creators of their future world.
Culture & Climate: Student Voice
• Student Voice workgroup analyzed data and the opportunity gaps that exist for Hispanic and black students.
• Planned student forums:
• Provide an opportunity to hear from students why Panorama survey data may be mismatched with academic achievement
• Provide an opportunity to hear the narratives of why students feel connected and where is race plays a role
Guiding question: Panorama is not showing a large gap within groups in sense of belonging.
Our vision is to affirm and inspire each and every student to learn and thrive as creators of their future world.
