Information about the school
Greasby Infant School is a two
form entry Infant School, which
teaches 220 children aged 3-7
years old. It is located in
Greasby, a semi-rural town in
the North of England, close to
the historic cities of Liverpool
and Chester.
Theme Plan
• Theme: The children had been studying traditional
Chinese stories including Bronze and Sunflower by
Chinese writer Cao Wenxuan.
• The children discussed the cultural background,
friendships, relationships and the love of nature.
• A simplified version of the story was adapted into a play
with both Chinese and English lines on the theme of
friendship.
• Whole school support: Penny worked alongside each
class teacher to ensure that they were able to rehearse
with the children using correct pronunciation.
Cross Curricular Learning:
• Speaking, listening and performance skills were developed.
• New vocabulary: Children rehearsed known vocabulary and
were introduced to new words and phrases for the play.
• Music: Children have learned new songs for the celebration.
F2 learnt a Ni hao Song, Year 1 sang a traditional Chinese
children’s song Little Swallow and Year 2 sang a Clapping
Song (Chinese version of If You’re Happy and You Know It).
• Stage design: The children designed and made the stage
props thinking about the Chinese countryside and it’s features.
• Art work: F2 created Chinese fans using paints and handprints.
• Technology: Year 1 designed and made Chinese style kites.
• Art work: Year 2 made sunflowers, reeds and buffalo masks
using a variety of materials including paint, paper and cutting
techniques.
