Mining Museum

As part of their science topic on ‘rocks and soils’, Year 3 went to the National Mining Museum to learn about how coal is extracted from the earth and the role it had in Britain’s industrial revolution. They all enjoyed going underground into a real mine shaft.

Maritime Museum

Year 6 went to the Liverpool Maritime Museum to learn more about the Titanic - its construction, maiden voyage and eventual sinking. They also learnt about the aftermath and compared life on board for the different social classes of the time.

Jodrell Bank

Year 5 visited Jodrell Bank for their ‘space’ topic. They went inside an inflatable planetarium and did some experiments about our solar system.

Choir

Our KS2 choir took part in the Rochdale Music Festival at the town hall and were highly commended in their class.

Bikeability

Year 5 children took part in cycling lessons to help improve their skills and confidence.

Art Weeks

Each class has enjoyed having a special week of art this term in which they studied a famous artist and then created their own work in a similar style or on a particular theme. The finished masterpieces were framed and put on display in a real art gallery one afternoon, which parents were invited to visit.

World Book Day

Everyone dressed up as their favourite book character to celebrate their love of reading and Year 6 also did a reading ‘flash mob’ in Middleton Shopping Centre.

Victorians

Year 2 had a Victorian school lesson for their history topic and learnt how strict teachers were.

Road Safety

Year 3 children were given a lesson on how to cross the road safely, whilst Year 5 did a traffic survey to help them learn about the need to wear seat belts when in a car – they also had a go at using a speed gun!

Year 3 Hinduism Experience

Year 3 took part in a 'Hinduism experience' day in which they: learnt about the Hindu way of life, found out about the different Hindu Gods, dressed up in some traditional saris and took part in a mock-Hindu wedding ceremony. They also had a colourful bindi dot put on their forehead to protect them from bad luck.

Sea Life Centre Trip

Year 1 had a great time visiting the underwater world of Sea Life Manchester this term where they saw thousands of sea creatures, including: sharks, seahorses, octopus, jellyfish and rays. Their favourite animal though was Ernie the turtle who lives in the centre having been rescued from a turtle farm in the Caribbean.

Girls 6-a-Side

Our girl’s football team enjoyed taking part in a 6-a-side football match against St Gabriel's, playing during half-time at the football match in Spotland Stadium in Rochdale.

Boys 5-a-Side

Congratulations to our boy’s 5-a-side football team who played in the Middleton School's competition and won the tournament by winning all three of their games in the finals!

Class Assemblies Reception

Reception talked about their favourite superheroes and why they like them so much. They eventually decided that the best superheroes though are mums because they are so caring and helpful.

Year 1 Year 1 shared some incredible writing they had done in literacy lessons and challenged the school to recognise the different exciting sentence types they had included in their work.

Year 2 Year 2 showed off their fabulous forces work – they demonstrated different forces in action and did a mini experiment to find out how the distance a car travels down a ramp is affected by the height it rolls from.

Easter Celebrations

The whole school had another 'egg'-citing time celebrating Easter this year - three classes visited All Saints and Martyrs church to learn about the different parts of the Easter story, whilst in school children displayed their Easter bonnets and decorated eggs they had made in the annual competition.

Year 3 Year 3 compared and contrasted Italy and the United Kingdom. The children talked about each countries': famous landmarks, traditional food dishes and different customs.
