RONG TAOLakeside is delighted to welcomethe return of Chongqing-basedchoreographer, dancer andteacher Rong Tao to the EastMidlands in January 2011.

During a three-week period,Rong Tao will be leading creativeworkshops with a range ofdifferent community, student andschool groups. This will includeworking with young maledancers drawn from severalCentres for Advanced Training(CAT) across England, includingthe East Midlands, to create anoriginal new dance work whichwill be performed on the outdoorstage at Chinese New Year 2011at Lakeside on Sunday 6February.

Additionally, Rong Tao will workwith the digital media artistBarret Hodgson of Vent Media(www.ventmedia.co.uk) to createa new dance/video work forpresentation on 6 February.

EXHIBITION OF BRUSH PAINTING & CALLIGRAPHY BY CATHY WUCathy Wu (Chinese name YatMing Ho) was born in Chengdu,Sichuan and brought up in HongKong. She studied Chinesecalligraphy under Mastercalligrapher and painter Lin ChienShi in. She has exhibited in HongKong, London, Manchester,Liverpool and Wirral, where shehas given talks and workshops. In 2007, she was commissionedto write ‘The Chinese CalligraphySourcebook’ which was publishedby Apple Press in Britain; ‘TheChinese Calligraphy Bible’ byBarrons in the US, and by Simonand Schuster in Australia.

The troupe is one ofChina’s first children’s artinstitutions that combine formaleducation with artisticperformance. They have wonvarious awards at national andlocal children’s dance and musiccompetitions, and toured over20 countries and regions in Asia,Europe, America and Africa.

The concept for Whispers From aRickshaw was initially conceivedafter a trip to Southern China in2008. A group of boys playingtable tennis on a stone table withbricks for a net-triggered curiosityabout what these boys dreamswere and whether one of themcould be or aspire to be a tabletennis player in the London 2012Olympics.

Today it is a thriving sport,and this is a great opportunity tomeet members of the hugelysuccessful Notts AnacondaDragon Boat team, to talk tothem about their sport, and tosee one of their prized Dragonboats. At 45 feet long, it makesan impressive sight!

CHINESE CULTURAL EVENT AT BARTONS Broxtowe Borough Council in partnership with theBeeston Bid and Bartons are inviting families andindividuals to attend a FREE afternoon of interactiveworkshops and fantastic performances. BROXTOWE BOROUGHCOUNCIL SCHOOLSRESIDENCY PROGRAMME

Dance residency Renowned dance artists Du Dan and JennyEdwards will be working collaboratively for the firsttime to develop a unique fusion of traditionalChinese and contemporary dance to be performedby pupils from a Broxtowe school at the BeestonSquare event on Saturday 5 and the finale ChineseNew Year event at Lakeside on the evening ofSunday 6 February.

Parade residency Once again we unite artists Ling Peng and MelvynRawlinson to create a unique processionalperformance involving visual arts, Chinesepercussion and performance. Working with pupilsfrom a Broxtowe school , the final result can beviewed from 10.50am as the children gather atBroadgate Park – then follow the procession alongthe pedestrian High Road for a finale paradearound Beeston Square. The artwork createdduring this residency will be exhibited during theafternoon, from 1pm until 4pm at Bartons as part ofthe attractions at the Chinese Cultural Event.

Dance residency Renowned dance artists Du Dan and JennyEdwards will be working collaboratively for the firsttime to develop a unique fusion of traditionalChinese and contemporary dance to be performedby pupils from a Broxtowe school at the BeestonSquare event on Saturday 5 and the finale ChineseNew Year event at Lakeside on the evening ofSunday 6 February.

Parade residency Once again we unite artists Ling Peng and MelvynRawlinson to create a unique processionalperformance involving visual arts, Chinesepercussion and performance. Working with pupilsfrom a Broxtowe school , the final result can beviewed from 10.50am as the children gather atBroadgate Park – then follow the procession alongthe pedestrian High Road for a finale paradearound Beeston Square. The artwork createdduring this residency will be exhibited during theafternoon, from 1pm until 4pm at Bartons as part ofthe attractions at the Chinese Cultural Event.

RONG TAOLakeside is delighted to welcomethe return of Chongqing-basedchoreographer, dancer andteacher Rong Tao to the EastMidlands in January 2011.

During a three-week period,Rong Tao will be leading creativeworkshops with a range ofdifferent community, student andschool groups. This will includeworking with young maledancers drawn from severalCentres for Advanced Training(CAT) across England, includingthe East Midlands, to create anoriginal new dance work whichwill be performed on the outdoorstage at Chinese New Year 2011at Lakeside on Sunday 6February.

Dance residency Renowned dance artists Du Dan and JennyEdwards will be working collaboratively for the firsttime to develop a unique fusion of traditionalChinese and contemporary dance to be performedby pupils from a Broxtowe school at the BeestonSquare event on Saturday 5 and the finale ChineseNew Year event at Lakeside on the evening ofSunday 6 February.

Parade residency Once again we unite artists Ling Peng and MelvynRawlinson to create a unique processionalperformance involving visual arts, Chinesepercussion and performance. Working with pupilsfrom a Broxtowe school , the final result can beviewed from 10.50am as the children gather atBroadgate Park – then follow the procession alongthe pedestrian High Road for a finale paradearound Beeston Square. The artwork createdduring this residency will be exhibited during theafternoon, from 1pm until 4pm at Bartons as part ofthe attractions at the Chinese Cultural Event.

Parade residency Once again we unite artists Ling Peng and MelvynRawlinson to create a unique processionalperformance involving visual arts, Chinesepercussion and performance. Working with pupilsfrom a Broxtowe school , the final result can beviewed from 10.50am as the children gather atBroadgate Park – then follow the procession alongthe pedestrian High Road for a finale paradearound Beeston Square. The artwork createdduring this residency will be exhibited during theafternoon, from 1pm until 4pm at Bartons as part ofthe attractions at the Chinese Cultural Event.

RONG TAOLakeside is delighted to welcomethe return of Chongqing-basedchoreographer, dancer andteacher Rong Tao to the EastMidlands in January 2011.

During a three-week period,Rong Tao will be leading creativeworkshops with a range ofdifferent community, student andschool groups. This will includeworking with young maledancers drawn from severalCentres for Advanced Training(CAT) across England, includingthe East Midlands, to create anoriginal new dance work whichwill be performed on the outdoorstage at Chinese New Year 2011at Lakeside on Sunday 6February.
