China Acupuncture Trip

• Theories of traditional Chinese veterinary medicine
• Concepts & characteristics of acupuncture
• Basic techniques in acupuncture
• Equine acupoints, demonstration & exercises
• Canine acupoints & exercises
• Take-home exam after the trip
Where?
• The acupuncture class will be held at Northwest A & F University, CVM, in Yangling, Shaanxi, China, May 14th – 25th
– Yangling is 60 miles from Xi’an
Transportation & Tours
• We will fly to Beijing airport, and then to Xi’an airport
• Chartered bus will take us from Xi’an airport to Yangling
• We will tour Xi’an for 4 days with a chartered bus
• For the return trip, we will take the night train (with bed) from Yangling to Beijing
• We will tour Beijing for 2 days before flying back to U.S.
Tentative Itinerary • Thu 5/10 Leave Ames (a group of ≤22 students) • Fri 5/11 Arrive in Beijing→Xi’an→Yangling • Sat 5/12 Tour: Wild-life Salvage Center, Daoist Temple,
etc. • Sun 5/13 Tour: Xi’an City Wall, Shaanxi History Museum,
Muslim District & Temple • Mon 5/14 Opening Ceremony. Introduction to
acupuncture • Tue 5/15 Theories of traditional Chinese veterinary
medicine • Wed 5/16 Techniques in acupuncture • Thu 5/17 Tour: Terra Cotta Warriors; Wild Goose Towers,
Song of Everlasting Sorrow Show, etc. • Fri 5/18 Techniques in acupuncture & concept of
acupoints; acupuncture techniques demonstration

Huashan (6600 ft) or ? • Mon 5/21 Equine acupoints and exercises • Tue 5/22 Equine acupoints and exercises • Wed 5/23 Canine acupoints and exercises • Thu 5/24 Canine acupoints and exercises • Fri 5/25 Treatment of diseases using acupuncture;
closing ceremony. Leave for Beijing on Train at 8 p.m. • Sat 5/26 Arrive in Beijing at 10 a.m. Check into hotel
and tour Summer Palace • Sun 5/27 Tour: Great Wall and Ming Tombs (Sacred
Way) • Mon 5/28 Leave Beijing and arrive in Ames
Predeparture Course in Spring 2012
• Course contents: Each lecture lasts 80 minutes
– Chinese culture (2). Dr. Paul Shao; Dr. Aili Mu
– Chinese language (6). Dr. Walter Hsu
– Chinese history (2). Dr. Walter Hsu
– Chinese politics (1): Dr. Walter Hsu
– Introduction to acupuncture (1) - Dr. Charles McDaniel

Some of the Items To Be Carried
• 1 suitcase
• 1 carryon/backpack
• 1 laptop per hotel room
• 1 camera with 2 batteries; 4GB memory card
• 1 power transformer (230 V → 115 V)
• Clothing: mostly dark-color casual clothes for late spring/early summer; may want to bring a coverall
• Sneakers are a must for sightseeing
• Small gifts for friends at NWAFU
Application
• Online application is due by November 30, 2011
• Results will be announced by January 15, 2012
• Priority will be given to students who show strong interest in acupuncture and Chinese culture
