SHAPED AND DESIGNED BY JAMES CHEAL.

Chilli had never before produced a surfboard model

with a pro team rider until Mitch Coleborn came along.

Mitch is the perfect mix between power and pop, rail

game and airs: The perfect all-rounder. So, who better

to develop the perfect all-round board with? Enter

The Spawn, a board crafted over months of refinement.

Mitch has given a serious qualification push this year

riding the Spawn, and even rode it to victory in a Bra-

zilian six-star.

The Spawn features a continuous rail line rocker,

pulled in squash tail, single concave and a medium rail

that allows the board to hold in when put on rail. Mitch

weighs 75 kilos and rides his 5’10” in 80 percent of

conditions. We suggest riding it an inch shorter than

your normal shortboard or your desired volume.

SHAPED AND DESIGNED BY JAMES CHEAL.

After tweaking and modifying the Grom Plus through 2017, our super grom

Kobi Clements has helped evolve the performance in our latest model,

the Grom 2. Chilli wanted to make sure kids are getting what they want in

a board, which is speed and maximum fun. This board is for intermediate

groms too advanced groms.

Let’s break it down:

• A deep single concave making the board really fast.

• Squash tail allows performance off the back foot and volume

under the front foot to help you carry speed through fat sections

suits intermediate groms

• Thruster set up, use your favourite Grom/Small sized Futures

or FCS 2 fin templates.

• The rocker is the perfect amount to paddle you into just about any

wave. The tail area has enough flip to help you rip.

Welcome to the pinnacle of grom shredding, The Grom 2.

Kobi Clements rides – 5’0 x 16 3/8 x 2 1/16 = 17.5L

Need to sweeten your quiver? The Sugar twin fin is Chilli’s latest

candy, combining a retro look with a modern twist. The Sugar’s

straight outline loves to draw long, fast lines and is not shy off the lip.

Let’s break it down:

• The beak nose allows foam through the top end of the board for

paddle power and a really nice foiled out tail in the bottom end

for performance.

• Low rail to bite the waves surface.

• A 3.5 inch deep swallow/fish tail, with width for speed in flat

sections.

• The fin position is a traditional twin fin set-up designed for large

style twin fins or twin keels.

The Black Vulture is our newest model that team rider Lee Wilson

put to the test. Lee fell in love with his 5’5 Black Vulture and claims

its one of the fastest boards he has ever ridden. Let’s break it down:

The Black Vulture has a fuller nose, added foam under the chest and

a wider outline. The wide point is a little further forward too, giving

it great foam under the chest and front foot when your surfing, also

making it a wave catching machine (much similar foam distribution

to the Rare Bird). We then gave it a bump swallow tail to pull the

tail in and give it drive. Combined with a single concave to vee out

through the tail. Resulting in a flying machine that turns on a dime.

We recommend riding it 1 inch smaller than the Rare Bird or your

desired volume. Our team has surfed it as a twin w/ center stabiliser

fin and with a traditional thruster set up and found gold in both.

PRETTY SHORT, PRETTY SWEET

Pretty short and pretty sweet. This board is designed to make you

get out of the car, throw your boardshorts on and go surf when

everyone else is headed home to read the paper.

It’s aggressive bottom contours ‘vee bottom into a spiralling vee

out between the back fins’ allow you to get up and planing on

the waves surface in small sub par surf conditions. The outline is

squashed down so it’s wide and has a lot of surface area for pad-

dle power. The rocker is… flat, but has a little kick in the nose area

to dig you out of the shorebreak if it pops up on you.

This board is an easy going, fun surfboard to ride when the con-

ditions are not great. Ideal for beginners coming off a soft board,

intermediate surfers that want to surf when the waves are poor

and advanced surfers that want to zoom along tiny waves and not

have to resort to a longboard.

SHAPED AND DESIGNED BY JAMES CHEAL.

This is an exciting release for us. A board that has been slightly

modified over the past year through our Project Black program. Tried,

tested and loved by our team, we had to put a name on it and release

to the public. But there’s a solid background to this surfboard…

The original cad file was named ‘ai8curve.cet’, created in 2003 and

has been sitting in the archive of James’ Macbook. The model back

then (named ‘a2 curve’) was made for many great surfers, but also

ridden (and loved) by none other then Andy Irons through out 03’

& 04’ (which was Andy’s prime). Since then, machines/software/

files quickly became outdated with the growth of new software and

CNC machines. New machines and software have allowed James to

resurrect some ‘old faithful’ files, this being one of them. A few tweaks

here and there, a modern day outline, concaves etc this is how the

‘new’ A2 was born.

The breakdown -

• The outline is a full smooth curve from nose to tail, no breaks or hips,

allowing high performance smooth arch surfing

• The rocker a progressive nose entry (not too flip) with a medium

curve centre (front foot area) for speed and a moderate tail kick for

performance in the pocket but speed in slow stuff.

• Medium/low rail, with a bit of foam in the centre line dsitributed out

to the rail just so you can paddle and it has carry but bites when you

most need it. An everyday performance shortboard, a must have in

your quiver for when there’s swell, push in the waves or you just feel

like ‘givin it some’

MORE STRENGTH, MORE TRUST, MORE FUN

A new model we have created from the Fader. Designed to be ridden

1 inch shorted then your Fader. This is a board you can trust, if you

had an around the world trip booked and only room for 1 surfboard,

this your board. Let’s break down the key strength elements - a strong

board plays a huge part in having trust in your board when the waves

are good. This board is glassed with 6 oz x 4 oz deck / 4 oz + Innegra

+ twin carbon strip bottom. The Twin carbon is designed to reinforce

the body of the board down the centre and the Innegra is woven into

the bottom roll of 4 oz fibreglass and assists with flex so your board

still performs at a high level. It’s designed to be strong and perform.

We did R&D through Project Black over the past 12 months this board

with riders Jay Davies and Luke Egan both big builds and heavy footed

surfers. The design - we’ve taken the Fader (a popular Chilli model for

good to excellent wave types) and added more foam in the centre of

the board, allowing more paddle power. The rocker is a very smooth

entry in the nose with a flow all the way out through the tail, it’s rides

silky smooth out on the face and tight in the pocket. A med/low rail

to bite into the water but not too low, it’s very forgiving. Bottom con-

tour is a shallow single concave right through the board, enough for

speed but shallow enough to keep flow in all conditions. Having the

continuous outline into a neat round tail it’s a pleasure to ride.

WE NEEDED A BOARD TO FIT IN OUR RANGE THAT CATERS SMALL

WAVES, IS FORGIVING, HAS A BIG GENEROUS SWEET SPOT AND

PERFORMS.

We had the perfect board right under our nose for over the past year.

Its designed mainly from Mitch Coleborns WQS small wave contest

board (as we all know the quality of waves on the World Qualifying Series

are poor). Its like a squashed down Spawn (the outline that is) and com-

bined with a much flatter faster rocker.

Lets break it down - The Churro has a semi wide outline with a rounded

square tail (we offer a swallow too) but not too wide that it cant be

surfed with performance, just enough to be paddle friendly in the small

stuff and carry momentum through the fat sections. The rocker is gentle

through the nose all the way to the tail, enough curve in the board to fit

the curl of a small wave and still generate speed when doing so. Single

concave under the front foot all the way back through to behind the rear

fin its FAST. All paired with a neat 5 fin set up.

If you’ve ridden the Rare Bird, the dimensions on the Churro are almost

identical so go off that or drop 3 inches from your short board
