About Messianic Publishers, LLC

Messianic Publishers, LLC was founded by Frances Walker-McCampbell, a retired Tennessee elementary school teacher, who had a desire to produce Messianic children’s educational materials that connect the B’rit Hadasha scriptures with the scriptures in the Tanach. The first curriculum, Yeshua In The Covenants: Every Sign Foreshadows His Coming, was published in 2012. In 2015, we will release two new curricula along with the first Messianic book in the Bible Window Storybook series.

“Miss Frances,” author of the curricula and books, is the former coordinator for the Shabbat School at B’rit Hadasha Messianic Jewish Synagogue in Memphis, TN.

Chad Holland, our past Congregational leader at B’rit Hadasha Messianic Jewish Synagogue, spent many hours discussing and editing this project, as have Darryl Godinez, M.Div., a deacon at B’rit Hadasha Synagogue, and Dr. Mary Walker McCampbell, Assistant Professor of Humantities at Lee University.

As we continue with the goals that have been set forth for Messianic Publishers, LLC, our sole purpose in creating and producing these educational materials is to teach children about Yeshua while serving, honoring, and glorifying our Messiah.

Messianic Publishers, LLC writes and produces Messianic Shabbat School and Home-school Curricula and Bible Window storybooks for children ages four through thirteen. In each Messianic curriculum, the format used is the (MIM), or Messianic Instructional Model, which links the B’rit Hadasha with the Tanach through a ‘Connect the Root’ scrip-ture study.

Each Bible Window Storybook includes a Messianic reinforcement unit that features hands-on activities in order to connect the reader of today with Yeshua’s first century culture. We hope that your children/students will enjoy our curricula and books, and that parents/teach-ers will find our materials helpful for teaching.

We certainly appreciate some of the children’s curricula that have been produced in years past that can be used or adapted for the Messianic Jewish Community. However, the new curricula that Frances Walker-McCampbell has produced is specifically designed for Messianic Jewish communities and families. Frances goes to great lengths to insure that the Shabbat School program that she oversees has a balanced approach to teaching our children the Jewish roots of faith within the centrality of Yeshua. Her technique of alternating Tanach passages and B’rit Hadasha examples for the students highlights the consistency and inerrant nature of the Word of God from beginning to end. These Messianic curricula are needed in our synagogues and in our homes.

(MIM) Messianic Instructional Model Components

There are many excellent instructional models for teachers; however, we felt that we needed a new model for this Messianic curriculum. Because of this, we wrote the Messianic Instructional Model or MIM.

In the MIM, each lesson includes the following components:

• A preperation page for teachers • An easy-to-follow lesson plan • A “Connect the Root” study which links the Tanach and the B’rit Hadasha • A student lesson sheet to be taken home and saved for future study • An art or craft project

––––––––––––––––––––––––

The preparatory page for teachers for each lesson includes:

• The lesson scripture reference • An overview of the lesson objectives • A suggested teaching aid for the lesson • The suggested lesson visual • The art / craft supply list

Lesson # 1: Scripture Ref. Genesis 6: 18

Title: God Gave His Covenants For Us

Overview Of Lesson Objective: Lesson one introduces the word “covenant.” The lesson also develops two main points: 1) God provided for us in His covenants and 2) that there are two types of covenants, conditional and unconditional. To introduce the idea of a covenant, the teacher will lead the children in a brief question and answer discussion about friendships. Next, to learn the meanings of the two types of covenants, the teacher will give the children two scenarios in which the children will role play the two given covenants.

Lesson Time Frame: Please allow 35 to 40 minutes to teach your lesson. After going over your plans, you will find that you can easily complete the lesson plan within that time frame. If needed, please adjust your lesson to fit your schedule.

Supplies Needed:CrayonsPaperSeveral pencils of different colorsOne yellow pencil

Teaching Tip: To help with the flow of the lesson, I give the student sheets to the children at the beginning of the Connect the Root study to let them work along with me. At the end of class the student sheets are sent home to be saved in the student’s notebooks.

Visual:

If you have a scroll, display it on your table during the lesson, then use it as you discuss the art project at the end of the lesson.

Link To Prior Knowledge: A long time ago, there was a man named Noah. Who remembers the story of Noah? (Brief discussion) As you remember, when Noah was alive, God sent a great flood. Who remembers what happened to Noah during the flood? (Brief discussion) Yes, God provided a way of deliverance for Noah, his family, and the animals. Before the flood, God gave specific directions to Noah so that he would be safe. In Genesis 6: 18, God said:

“I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark —you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you.”

Preparatory Transitional Sentence:Today we are going to learn more about the word “covenant.” As we learned in the Connect The Root study, a covenant means an agreement, a pledge, or a promise. A covenant is a binding agreement between two parties.

Have you ever made an agreement with a friend? (Brief answer) What kind of agreement did you make? (Brief comments) Did you and your friend keep your agreement with each other? (Brief answer)

Now, let’s study more about the word covenant.

Lesson Text: The word “covenant” was first used in Genesis 6: 18 where God gave Noah His promise to care for Noah. In God’s covenant with Noah, He made provisions for Noah, his family, and the animals during the flood. God’s promises are true. He did exactly what He told Noah that He would do. Noah could trust God because God’s Word is true.

As God provided for Noah, He also provides for us. His covenants show us that He loves us and that He will always take care of us. As we study this lesson, we will see that God has made provision for us through His covenants.

In our “Connect the Root” study, we learned what a covenant is; now let’s learn about the different types of covenants. There are two types of covenants: conditional and unconditional. 1. In a “conditional covenant,” both people must fulfill the agreed upon conditions. If either person fails to meet his or her agreement, the covenant is broken. 2. In an “unconditional covenant,” there is an agreement between two people, but only one of them has to do something. The other person does not have to do anything.

To learn more about the two types of covenants and a covenantal agreement, let’s do some role playing.

Page 21: Children’s Curriculum & Messianic Storybooks Informational ...

21

Yeshua In The Covenants • Lesson One

Teacher: Let’s role play one type of covenant. One of you will give the covenant conditions and your friend will do nothing.

First Scenario: [Teacher selects the first two children]

First child: “Here are some crayons if you want to color. I will put the pencils in your art box in a few moments.”

• The two children verbally agree with each other. The second child does nothing but sits in the chair. He may color if he wants to, or he may do nothing. His actions do not affect the covenant. In a few moments, the first child (giver of the covenant) puts the pencils in the art box.

Teacher: What kind of covenant is this? (Unconditional) Explain why this is an unconditional covenant. (Brief class discussion)

Second Scenario: [Teacher selects two more children]Now let’s role play the second type of covenant.

First child: “Here are your pencils. If you use the yellow pencil to draw the outline of a flower, then I will put the crayons in your box for you to use later.”

• The two children verbally agree with each other. The second child uses only the yellow pencil to sketch the outline of a flower, then the first child puts the crayons in the art box.

Teacher: What kind of covenant is this? (Conditional) Explain why this is a conditional covenant. (Brief class discussion)

Class Discussion: What type of covenant do you think God gave Noah? Review These Lesson Concepts:1. When was the first time God used the word “covenant” in the Tanach?2. Define a covenant.3. Define the two types of covenants. 4. Explain why God’s covenants are binding.

Close With These Lesson Truths: 1. God’s covenants show us that He loves us.2. God will always provide for us.3. God will never break His covenants with us.
