Week 7Home Lesson Plan

Toddler 2-3 YearsMONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY

Fine Motor Social Cognitive Math LanguageFoil Puzzle Presents Supplies • Foil (or other materials such as scarf, wrapping paper, etc) • Puzzle pieces • Basket Wrap the individual puzzle pieces with a sheets of foil paper (or other material) Place all the pieces in the basket and let your child unwrap the pieces and then put the puzzle together. Helping with Meals Allow your child to help make breakfast with you. Allow them to scoop their cereal from one bowl to another, give them a small cup of milk to pour with. Let them spread with a butter knife etc. Parent supervision necessary. Have your child help you wash some vegetables for a meal like potatoes, or carrots. Count the number of vegetables. Color Sorting Supplies • A variety of colored paper • Small toys or objects (such as blocks, cars, etc.) Activity Place colored paper on the floor or table. Ask your child to place the toys (like blocks, cars, etc.) on their corresponding colored paper in order to classify and sort. Working with your child, label the colors. Count down the day Count as you move through your day. Ask your child, "How many steps is it to the table?" and, "How many apples are in the refrigerator?" and "How many shirts is mommy folding?" Body Moves Have you noticed that your two-year-old uses Their whole body to express themselves? You can encourage your child to express their science observations the same way. When you explore outdoors, for example, suggest they move like the animals you see with questions like, "Can you hop like a bunny/fly and chirp like a bird/wiggle like a worm?" Maybe they can even grow like a plant or float like a cloud in the sky! Help your child describe what they are doing and how by using words like, "You’re flapping your arms like wings!" and, "How are you chirping?" Simon Says Activity Start out with simple directions like, "Simon says, touch your toes" - then graduate to silly, more complex commands like, "Simon says, tug on your left ear, then your right ear". Don't forget to drop "Simon says" phrase every now and then! Variations You can also encourage your child to jump, skip, catch something, and more. Playing Ball Catch and throw a ball or other soft small object back and forth. Practice over, under, fast, slow etc. Don't worry if your child can't catch. Drawing with Cars Supplies • Toy Cars • Marker or Crayon • Masking Tape • Paper Position one colored marker or crayon at the back of a toy car (on the bumper). The marker's tip must be even with the bottom of the wheels in order to draw on the paper. Tape the marker in place. Ask your child to move the car around on the paper until the marker writes on the paper. Your child will have fun drawing. Buttons and Zippers Give your child an adult sweater with large buttons to practice fastening and unfastening buttons Have your child practice using a zipper. Junior Gardening Toddlers don't realize how much work it is to pull weeds, dig in the dirt, harvest vegetables, sweep porches, rake leaves or refill birdbaths and feeders. For them, it's not yard work; it's outdoor fun. Get little hands involved with the tasks that you might perform yourself. Not only will you be helping your toddler be more active, but you'll also be laying the groundwork for them to be able to perform these tasks independently one day. Have a Parade The point of a parade is something near and dear to the heart of the toddler: It's all about showing off and celebrating! Shapes in the Playground As you walk around the playground (or outside play structures) have your child find circles, squares, rectangles, and triangles from different angles in the playground.
