• The inquiry, announced in April 2001 and launched on 31 May 2001.
• Chaired by William Laming, former chief inspector of the social services inspectorate (SSI).

• The inquiry cost £3.8m, making it the most expensive child protection investigation in British history.
• The 400-page report made 108 recommendations in child protection reform.
