Following on from the Live Poster workshop, Rian Hughes has designed a lot of posters which are quite similar to what we were working on. I especially like the poster below as the colour scheme and general design of it looks quite young. I like how the lines form a grid without being too strict. Although there isn‟t much typography in this image, I like that the letters and punctuation that is there, is represented. R - Robot.

Emily Forgot has quite a unique style, from her almost vintage piece above to the quirky black and white typeface to the right, her work is very bold. Above, the design uses typography to describe what is going on within the image. “Take a Risk” represented with dice - gambling. “Leap” with an image of Superman. The image reminds me of a billboard on top of a sky-scraper in New York or a big City. The typography design to the right, I love. It is called the Hobby Type. Each letter shows a hobby such as, cards, drawing, golf etc. While it is very basic in design, the use of a strong black line really makes the letters stand out for me. It also re-minds me of the simple lettering used when teaching children how to write. I think it is the smooth curves and thick stems.

Hama beads - I was planning on cutting the background of the image out, but now I can see them, I like the grid effect.

Plasticine - I tries to create type from a block of plasticine but I found the media hard to control and messy to use.

I have decided that I would like my typogra-phy design to have an illustrative quality to it as well as the 3D element. I am going to concentrate on the Book and Film - Peter Pan as I think there is a lot of imagery in the story for me to work with. I am going to research more illustrative typographers to influence my work.

Lego and Cardboard letters.

I love the bright geometric patterns in Myerscough‟s work. There is a mix of colours and black and white illustrative letters. Although the subject may not always be child friendly I think the colours and text is reminiscent of childhood. The image at the top of the page could be a mural of images but I love the way there is arrange of different fonts all compet-ing with each other. The image from the bottom that I have highlighted looks almost pixelated in design - this reminds me of old video games, game boys, Mario etc. I could easily create a pixelated design by ironing over the Hama beads.

MM PARIS I have chosen some of my favourite MM Paris work. The „&‟ and the parentheses below are my favourite examples of typography. The way the face has been the base of the design, then cut up and drawn over really appeals to me.

Although I can see why the images are in black and white (to make the image clearer as punc-tuation, so the colours of the face don‟t dis-tract the viewer from focussing where they want the eye to be) I would prefer the de-signs to be in colour.

PETER PAN IMAGERY

After creating the base of my ty-pography out of Hama beads I then used a fineliner to outline each image.

I then scanned this back in and used the Poster Edges effect to make the outline stand out. I did this for each. I am now going to add the Peter Pan influence to it.

I am pleased with how my typography has turned out. Overall I feel it represents the Pe-ter Pan stories and characters, I took little bits of inspiration from the storyline and incor-porated it into the designs, for example, pirates, fairies, native americans. I also took in-spirations from quotes from the book such as "clad in skeleton leaves and the juices that flow from trees". I think the text is most effective when used in sentences as you don‟t really get the full effect when the letters are in alphabetical order.
