The Children’s Hourby Henry Wadsworth

Between the dark and the daylight, When the night is beginning to lower, Comes a pause in the day's occupations, That is known as the Children's Hour. I hear in the chamber above me The patter of little feet, The sound of a door that is opened, And voices soft and sweet. From my study I see in the lamplight, Descending the broad hall stair, Grave Alice, and laughing Allegra, And Edith with golden hair. A whisper, and then a silence: Yet I know by their merry eyes They are plotting and planning together To take me by surprise. A sudden rush from the stairway, A sudden raid from the hall! By three doors left unguarded They enter my castle wall! They climb up into my turret O'er the arms and back of my chair; If I try to escape, they surround me; They seem to be everywhere. They almost devour me with kisses, Their arms about me entwine, Till I think of the Bishop of Bingen In his Mouse-Tower on the Rhine! Do you think, O blue-eyed banditti, Because you have scaled the wall, Such an old mustache as I am Is not a match for you all! I have you fast in my fortress, And will not let you depart, But put you down into the dungeon In the round-tower of my heart. And there will I keep you forever, Yes, forever and a day, Till the walls shall crumble to ruin, And moulder in dust away!

Page 3: Childhood...

I liked this poem because it is long and it rhymes a lot. It sounds very poetic with use of big words. It describes a lot of the sounds that are happening in the beginning of the poem. The mood is also worth mentioning because the mood is very joyful. This poem defiantly fits my theme because it is about kids playing.

Page 5: Childhood...

This is one of my favorite songs, so I had to pick it. I like how it talks about decisions and how they were made for you as a kid. This song also shows signs of end rhyming. This band writes songs that have a lot of hidden meanings. When he says “Control yourself, take only what you need from it,” is is saying to leave the bad memories behind.

Do you remember childhoodPedaling on your bikeThe boy you still likeSad when the bell strikes

Do you remember childhoodDriving down the roadThose looks made with codeYour love always showed

Do you remember childhoodWhen he broke your heartAnd it was just the startYou are no longer art

Do you remember childhoodWhen childhood was still thereAnd your heart wasn't bareAnd people would care

Do you remember childhood?

I can't remember childhood.

Page 7: Childhood...

I like this poem because it starts each stanza with “Do you remember Childhood.” As far as rhyming goes, the poem has a rhyme every other line. This poem goes along with the theme by describing memories from people’s childhood. The end of the poem is very interesting. It says “I can’t remember childhood.”

My Childhoodby Kiera R Lewis

My childhood was fun, tough and exciting. My childhood was one where there wasn't much fighting. This was my childhood. My childhood was filledwith family and friends. My childhood was filled with love that tied up loose ends. This was my childhood. My childhood camewith a grandmother that cared.

When she left meI remembered all the times we shared. This was my childhood. My childhood was filled with classwork and homework. My childhood was filled with parents who hated work. This was my childhood. My childhood was filledwith fun in the hood, and food that tasted like

My childhood was filledwith tricycles and bicycles. My childhood was filled with popsicles and Dill pickles. This was my childhood. My childhood was filledwith lots of happy holidays.Holidays that aren'tjust the same nowadays. This was my childhood. Now my childhood

has become nothing but memories, But all the good times will live on within me.This was my childhood.

Page 9: Childhood...

This poem described some things that happened in the author’s childhood. They asked the readers if they remembered these experiences. The poem included some end rhyming. It also ended each stanza with “This was my childhood.” This poem worked with my theme by describing some memories.

My Red Bike and Meby Carrie Richards

I learned on a relic...quite bent out of shape, rusty and dented..... and not even quaint!..,An rattle-trap, hand-me-down, that had seen better daysA ten year old's wishes, had faded away....But, then on my birthday, as I opened my eyes...There sat a beauty, my birthday surpriseMy very first bike.....shiny and red!! My dreams had come true.....as I jumped out of bed!!!I tore off the ribbon, to take a good lookNo time now, for breakfast, no time now, to groom

I jumped into my clothes, and then burst from the roomOnto the sidewalk, and into the street Shouting to everyone.. "Will you come, look at me??!!!”With legs long and tan, I began peddling fast The sun hid it's shine, the cold wind was brashBreeze blew through my hair and into my faceWith time on my side, I was winning a race!We were sailing along, I could hear the wheels spinOver the hills, where often I'd been!

Clutching the handles, pumping my kneesI flew past the graveyard, as I peddled with easeFar down the lane that circles the fieldsWith rows of tall corn stalks, all waiting to yieldPassing the warehouse that sold Daddy's seedI flew past the postman, and the church near the square!A turn 'round the corner, the train depot there!Splashing through puddles along the bumpy old trackMy legs kept on

with no looking back!!Didn't notice the dark clouds or storm in the skyThe air was so sweet as I held my arms highWas I dreaming? I didn't care...as I glided in timeAll the happiness I felt, all the joy of that I ride!I remember that birthday....that's been hidden inside..Look at me!! Look at me!! On my red bike, it's me!! Don't you see??!!! Don't you see!!! ... That young girl was me!!Like a clock that's unwinding..!! That is

me that you see!!I remember....I remember....How happy and freeAs those wheels spin beneath meLook at me !!!!!!!!! Do you see??Free as a bird....it is me, it is me!!! Wheeeeeeeee!!!!

Page 11: Childhood...

I personally liked this poem because I too had a red bike. This poem talks about the memories of getting a first bike. Its uses literary devices such as end rhymes. I also liked how the end became progressively more exciting as they were riding down the hill. This poem fit the theme because it described a childhood experience.

Childhood, a Poemby L. M. Hewlings

O, for the loved familiar faces,For the dear companions gone from sight,Vanished forms from life’s busy places,That cheered, gladdened and gave delight.O, for the home of youth and childhood,For rambles over the dear old farm,Over the meadows, fields and

wildwood,Frolicking plays in the spacious barn,Watching the birds and wild bees humming,Climbing the trees for fruit most rare,Gathering berries, going nutting,With merry companions free as air. O, for a swim in the clear lakelet,

For leisure to fish with hook and line.As erst of yore in days of childhood,Without a care of the coming time.O, for daily showers of sweetness,As they were once in the dear old home. Then life was gay in its completeness,And yet scarcely heeded until

flown.O, for the dear old kitchen garden,With its fragrance of flowers and herds,Delicious with sweet spicy odors. That enchanted the bees and the birds.I yearn for those old fashioned posies,To breathe fragrance from mint and balm. Gather in garlands enwreathed with roses,And roam again o’er the dear old farm.

Page 13: Childhood...

This poem was very interesting because it sounds like a traditional poem. It also has a lot of meaning behind the words that you have to be looking for. The author is very descriptive in in describing what childhood was like for them. The author included a lot of end rhymes and imagery. This fits into my theme because it talks about childhood

Forever Youngby Bob Dylan

May God bless and keep you always,May your wishes all come true,May you always do for othersAnd let others do for you.May you build a ladder to the starsAnd climb on every rung,May you stay forever young. May you grow up to be righteous,May you grow

up to be true,May you always know the truthAnd see the lights surrounding you.May you always be courageous,Stand upright and be strong,May you stay forever young.May your hands always be busy, May your heart always be joyful,May your song always be sung,May you stay forever young.

Page 15: Childhood...

I like this poem because it talks about growing up. It does this this by telling you to stay young. It basically says that you should stay young at heart. The tone of the poem is very hopeful. This poem fits with my theme because it says “May you be forever young.”

Best Friends Foreverby Tara

Every time I trusted someone it blew up in my face, for I have no grace. But I’ve found my one true sound. The one girl who I care for, will be just fine, when I’d put my life on the line. I tell you everything because I know I can, and I’d never lie, you see. We are just

teens as we grow, and it means so much to me that you know I will keep every secret, so let go. I would never ever hurt you with cruel intention, for I love you, my darling friend, hopefully forever and always.I wish us to always have an amazing

blazing friendship. Who knew two girls so close could be so very different, and yet we already met. I liked when our long conversations grew, because I felt so strong when I depended on you. I wish I could say “best friends forever”, and let it be true, because I feel as though it’s you.

Page 17: Childhood...

I like this poem because is talks about best friends. This poem speaks to most everybody because most everyone has a best friend. This poem includes some end rhymes. The poem’s tone is very joyful. This poem fits my theme because you usually acquire a best friend when you are a kid.

No Courage In My Sizeby Tamarv

I used to be that kid splashing autumn lives,Running in the green meadows with my bare feet,Singing out loud in the public yard,Popping my head out of the window when it’s rainingI used to be that kid,I had the courage to live,But now I have grown out of that body,They don’t have such a life in my sizeAnd it hurts...

I used to be that kid begging for chocolate ice-cream,Pretending to sob to break my mother. That kid showing off to his friends,Coming home with tears“Cause Jimmy gave all the other boys a muffin”I used to be that kid,I used to have the childishness to be stupid,But now I have grown out of that body,I returned that life to the storeAnd on time…

Page 19: Childhood...

I like this poem because it ends each stanza with “I used to be that kid.” It sounds like he was that annoying kid to other people. The thing is, he didn’t care. He was a rebel. This poem doesn’t include end rhymes.

Page 21: Childhood...

I liked this poem because it uses a unique feature. Each line goes down the alphabet. I have never seen this before in a poem. It says to forgive the children for the things that they are. This poem also does not use end rhymes.

I don’t talk muchBy Nick Clark

Just because I don’t talk muchDon’t think I’m rudeDon’t think I’m weak

Still talk to meJust because I don’t talk much

It doesn’t mean that I don’t like to talkIt doesn’t mean I don’t have friends

It doesn’t mean I can’t talkJust because I don’t talk much

Still make an effortBecause I can make one hell of a friend

Just because I don’t talk much, Give me a chance
