CHILD & FAMILY SERVICES ANGEL HOUSE - MOTHER/BABY RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM Angel House provides residential treatment and guidance for pregnant and parenting girls ages 13-18 who are under the supervision of the Michigan Department of Human Services. Angel House is contracted with MDHS to provide this service and the program consists of a three-tiered transitional continuum of care: Tier 1: Highly structured with 24 hour supervision by program staff. Tier 2: Less restrictive with a decrease in the level of supervision and increase in the youth’s responsibilities while still living in the supportive environment at Angel House. Tier 3: Step-down to a non-residential setting with ongoing program support. The first two tiers are nine to twelve months in duration during which time the program offers an intensive array of services geared toward meeting both the short-term and long-term needs of pregnant and parenting girls in foster care. Angel House provides: Residential treatment in a home-like setting. Master’s level clinicians for treatment planning, counseling, and case management services. Formal linkages to community based medical and mental health agencies. Visiting Maternal and Infant Support specialists – social worker and nurse team. Individualized education planning. Easy access to nearby schools, including Capital Area Career Center – a highly acclaimed Career and Technical Education (CTE) center for young people. CACC is located one mile from Angel House. Goal oriented programming with a Positive Youth Development (PYD) approach. PYD develops life and leadership skills, builds self-confidence, and helps prevent risky behaviors. Independent living education and preparation. Hands-on referral support for other needed services such as WIC, employment seeking, childcare, and transportation. Support groups, including peer led and parenting education. Access to mentors and tutors. Family involvement including co-parenting outreach to fathers. Coordination with the youth’s caseworker for service planning and monitoring. Transitional service following discharge to ensure safety, wellbeing, and permanency. For a referral packet, please call or e-mail Lori Burgess at 517-244-4444 ext. 101 or [email protected]. Once Angel House receives the admission request, a Clinical Case Manager will call to arrange an intake interview. Phone or off site interviews can be scheduled for applicants who cannot make the pre-admission visit to the Angel House facility. Intake interviews can be scheduled within one business day of receiving a referral if there is a pressing need for placement. The director of Angel House is Rorie Dodge-Garnaat.
