NOTE-A-BULLS

Note-A-Bull for Today

The Bulls have won their last three games against the Bucks, which directly followed a three-game losing streak to Milwaukee.

With two wins already against Milwaukee in this season’s series, Chicago is guaranteed to finish at least .500 through the four games. The Bulls have only lost a season series to the Bucks two times in the last 10 seasons.

The Bulls have hit at least 10 3-pointers in each of their last 11 home games, which is the longest streak for the franchise since 1983. It also ties the third-longest such streak in the NBA this season. (Basketball-Reference)

The Bulls have scored 100 or more points in their last nine games, which is the longest streak this season. The last time Chicago reached the century mark in 10 games in a row was from Dec. 21, 2015, to Jan. 9, 2016.

With four 3-pointers made vs. the Lakers on Friday, Nikola Mirotić (430) became tied with Steve Kerr for fifth on the Bulls’ All-Time List for 3-point field goals made. With one 3-pointer this afternoon, he will pass Kerr for sole possession of the fifth spot. (Michael Jordan is in fourth place with 555 3-pointers made while with the Bulls.

Team Note-A-Bulls

Chicago’s 15-11 record (.577) since Dec. 8 is the third-best in the Eastern Conference. The Bulls trail Miami (.680) and Toronto (.680).

The Bulls set season highs in points (128) and free throws (30) in Monday’s double-overtime loss at New Orleans. It was Chicago’s second double-overtime game of the season. The Bulls are 2-3 in overtime this year.

Chicago’s 10-game streak with at least 10 3-pointers made ended on Jan. 22 at New Orleans. But, the Bulls have 34 such games this season, which is the most in team history through 49 games.

The Bulls shot .500 (40-of-80) from the floor on Jan. 20 at Atlanta. It was the ninth game Chicago has connected on at least half of its field goal attempts, and the Bulls moved to 6-3 in such games.

For the first time in franchise history, Chicago made at least 15 3-pointers in three-straight games from Jan. 10 to 15. The Bulls are now 5-3 this year when making 15-plus 3-pointers in a game.

Chicago won seven consecutive home games in December, marking the longest such streak during Fred Hoiberg’s tenure as head coach and matching the longest for the team since winning seven games in a row from April 11 to Nov. 18, 2013.

The Bulls are the first team in NBA history to win seven-straight games directly following a 10-game losing skid.

Player Note-A-Bulls

Jerian Grant totaled eight assists and zero turnovers against the Lakers on Friday. It was Grant’s second game of the season with at least eight dimes and no turnovers, and he currently ranks fourth in the NBA in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.93).

Lauri Markkanen notched his 11th double-double on the year with 11 points and 11 rebounds vs. L.A. Lakers on Jan. 26. Markkanen ranks second in total double-doubles among rookies in the NBA. He also recorded a career high with three blocks against the Lakers.

Denzel Valentine collected his third double-double this season with 16 points and 11 boards versus the Lakers on Jan. 26. Valentine finished 6-of-11 from the floor, including 4-of-6 from distance.

Nikola Mirotić recorded his 14th game with three-plus triples after knocking down four shots from beyond the arc en route to a team-high 18 points on Friday vs. L.A. Lakers. Mirotić is averaging the most points per game (17.1) of any player in the NBA who averages under 25.0 minutes per game with at least 17 appearances this season.

Bobby Portis led the Bulls with a plus/minus rating of +19 on Friday against the Lakers, following a rating of +20 two days earlier at Philadelphia. Portis scored 16 points and grabbed nine boards in 21:56 of action Friday.

Zach LaVine set a season high with 21 points on 8-of-15 from the field and 3-of-5 from long range at Philadelphia on Jan. 24.

David Nwaba tallied 10 points at the 76ers on Wednesday for his 14th double-digit scoring game this season. In his rookie year, Nwaba only scored 10-plus points in four games.

Robin Lopez notched his sixth game with at least 20 points this season against New Orleans, scoring 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor.

Lauri Markkanen grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds at New Orleans on Monday. It was the first time a Bulls rookie has recorded at least 17 rebounds in a game since 2008 when Aaron Gray had 22.

Lauri Markkanen hit multiple 3-pointers in 12 games in a row from Dec. 27 to Jan. 17, which not only sets a new career-long streak, but also tied Mike Miller for the longest streak of its kind ever in the NBA by a rookie. Miller also had 12 consecutive games with at least two 3-pointers from March 7 to 28, 2001.

Markkanen is the fastest rookie in NBA history to reach 100 3-pointers made, recording 101 through his first 41 career games. He is now at 104 through his first 45 games.

Kris Dunn dished at least eight assists in seven-straight games from Jan. 3-15, which is a career-long streak. It is tied for the fourth longest such streak in the NBA this season, behind Russell Westbrook (10, 9) and John Wall (10).

Justin Holiday (116) and Lauri Markkanen (107) are both on pace to have a chance to break the Bulls’ all-time single season record for 3-pointers made, currently held by Ben Gordon (173) in 2008-09.

Holiday knocked down a career-high seven 3-pointers in the win over Miami on Jan. 15. Holiday scored a team-high 25 points in the contest, which is his fifth game scoring at least 25 this season. Previously, he posted one such game in his entire career (29 points on 4/13/16).

Lauri Markkanen scored a career-high 33 points on Jan. 10 in New York, to go along with 10 rebounds. That performance was only seven games removed from when he posted his previous career high of 32 points vs. Indiana on Dec. 29. He is one of three rookies to have a double-double with 30 points.

GOING ON THE OFFENSIVE Here’s a month-by-month look at how these young Bulls are improving on offense this season. In its first 23 games this season, Chicago recorded at least 100 points just eight times, but over the last 26 games, the Bulls have eclipsed the century mark 22 times.

THE MARKSMAN IN MIDTOWN Lauri Markkanen led the Bulls with 33 points and 10 rebounds in the double-overtime win at the Knicks on Jan. 10. He became the first rookie player on any team, including the Knicks, to produce at least 30 points and 10 rebounds in a game at Madison Square Garden since Billy Owens had 30 and 10 for the Warriors there in 1992. Prior to Markkanen, the only other Bulls rookie to score at least 30 points in a game at MSG was Michael Jordan, who scored 33 points in November 1984 and 42 points at New York later that season. (Elias)

Markkanen’s made a career-high eight 3-pointers in the game, which holds significance because …

• He is the only rookie this season to have eight 3-pointers made in a game and is one of 11 players total to make eight 3-pointers in a game.

• He is one of five Bulls players in team history to make at least eight 3-pointers in a game, and joins Chris Duhon as the only rookies to do so.

• He tied Dirk Nowitzki for the most threes in a game by a 7-footer in NBA history (ESPN).
