The Calgary Regional Partnership (CRP)

• Working collaboratively to create a prosperous region where future generations can thrive

• 14 municipalities in the Calgary Region coming together voluntarily

• Use funds and resources to maximize opportunities such as regional transit

• The CRP is important to the long-term planning of the Calgary Region

• Promoting transit culture through public engagement and education

• Generating public awareness and support for regional and local transit by building transit market share and promoting economic opportunities

• Connecting communities

• Development of transit supportive land use policies

• Public/private service delivery model

• Implementation of regional and local transit services at the local level

Why regional transit?

• Accommodate population growth up to approximately 3 million people by 2070

• Calgary Metropolitan Plan is the smart growth plan for the Calgary Region

• Regional transportation will play an important role in the implementation of the smart growth plan

• Regional transit implementation is a critical component of the overall regional transportation plan

Transit Feasibility Study• The CRP are working with Calgary

Transit to complete a Transit Feasibility Study for the Chestermere area

• The Study is a preliminary, high-level investigation into the feasibility of a local or regional transit system for the Chestermere area and will be presented to Town Council for information

• Goal is to determine what regional and local transit could look like

Transit Feasibility StudyThe Study examines capital and operating cost implications

• based on proposed routing options

• including routing options to and from Calgary

• including local routing options

• including ridership and fare assumptions

The Town’s role

The Town of Chestermere is interested in the results of CRP’s public consultation and Transit Feasibility Study to help assess if a local or commuter service is feasible and needed in the community.

Public consultation

• A public consultation process is being implemented in conjunction with the Transit Feasibility Study to ensure the views and opinions of stakeholders and the community are gathered from the outset and reflected in any future regional transit system to the greatest extent possible

• Outcomes of this engagement process will be appended to the Transit Feasibility Study

Public consultation

The public engagement process will happen in two phases:

• Winter 2013 - Phase 1 (Mobility Needs Assessment)

• Spring 2013 – Phase 2 (Transit Planning)

• Process includes:

• project website and discussion forum

• Steering Committee

• public open houses (one in each phase)

• online feedback
