How to use Chess.com/Analysis

Chess.com/Analysis chess.com is the parent company for ChessKid.com. YEL uses both websites for practicing and playing chess.

chess.com/Analysis allows our online instructors to share a chess position or practice puzzle with all the students in a class. It is tricky to get accustomed to it the first and second lesson, but once students have it down, it enhances online teaching greatly. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to use it during class time.

NOTE: An FEN is a series of letters and numbers that tell a chess software engine where to place each piece on the chess board.

1. Visit chess.com/analysis

2. Click on “Load FEN”

3. Click inside the “Paste FEN” box

4. Copy the FEN from the Chat area of GoTo MeetingIf you aren’t in a meeting at present, use this sample:

4k3/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/4K3 w - - 0 1

5. Paste the FEN into the “Paste FEN” field.

6. Click the “Load” button.

8. Click the “Start” button.

9. Click the “Level (x)” text to choose the computer’s level.

10. Choose the computer’s level, then click the “x” to close the computer level window.
