Aim: What were the different ways to become an English colony? What issues did the colonists have with the Natives?
(I) Colonial Charters: were granted stating what they can and cannot do
a. Corporate colony: granted a charter to stockholders (i.e Virginia had the Joint Stock Company)
b. Proprietary Colony: granted a charter to individual or a group (i.e. Maryland, Pennsylvania)
c. Royal Colony: under direct control of the monarch (i.e. New Hampshire); eventually 8 of the 13 colonies became royal colonies including Virginia and Mass.
Question: why do you think that was the case?
