Method To Check YourHaemoglobin Level
Presented by,Vigyan Ashram, Pabal.
Required Material
Pipette
0.1N HCL Cotton
Haemoglobinometer
Glass slides
Lancet
Required material:1. 0.1 N HCL 2. Distilled water3. Spirit or Dettol4. Blood sample
Required tools:5. Pipette (with rubber pipe)
6. Test tube*7. Haemoglobinometer 8. Dropper*9. Brush 10. Lancet11. Glass rod (* These things normally come along with the Haemoglobinometer kit)
Procedure1. Take 20 ml of 0.1 N HCL in a test tube (a special test tube with Hb level markings on it).
2. With the help of Dettol, disinfect the place where ‘blood taking’ procedure will be carried out. Clean and disinfect the finger from which the blood sample will be taken. Also disinfect the tools you are
going to use for the procedure.
3.With the help of lancet, remove blood through the finger (finger no. 4 from thumb) and take it on a glass slide.
4. Take 0.02 ml blood in a pipette from the glass slide.
5. Put that blood in the test tube in which you have taken 20 ml of 0.1N HCL.
6. Shake the test tube well so that blood and 0.1 N HCL will mix with each other properly.
7. Keep the test tube in haemoglobinometer for 5 minutes.
8. Check the colour of the solution in the test tube. It should match with the colours shown on both sides of the haemoglobinometer. To match the colour of solution present in the test tube, add drops of distilled water with help of dropper.
9. Now compare the colour. If it matches with the colour on sides, then take the reading on the test tube. This is your Hb level in the blood.
This is the way, you can check your Hb level.
Precautions to take while carrying out the procedure
•Use separate lancet for each person.•Don’t prick near nail, prick on tip of finger.•Clean the pipette immediately after taking
blood.•Always take reading of haemoglobinometer in sunlight or in the bright light.•Make sure that blood doesn’t come in your
mouth while sucking from the pipette.
