Travel to Jaipur, India to participate in a Women’s Empowerment volunteer program

Application fees and prep courses for LSAT, GRE, and MCAT exams for law or med school

Attendance to conferences and workshops held at Princeton, MIT, and Boston University

Travel courses in England, Denmark, Iceland, Spain, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Argentina

Tuition for a Decolonial Black Feminism Summer School program held in Cachoeira, Brazil

The Gilbert & Marcia Kotzen Scholars Program is a competitive merit award which recognizes the best and brightest students interested in a transformative education at Simmons College. This is the most prestigous award offered at Simmons College and acknowledges excellence through a focus on study abroad, scholarly research, and intellectural curiosity.

The scholarship covers full tuition, mandatory fees, and room & board. An additional annual award of $3,000 is given for study abroad, short-term courses, summer internship or research opportunities. The scholarship is awarded for eight consecutive semesters of full-time undergraduate study, and supersedes any previously awarded merit scholarship.

THE GILBERT & MARCIA KOTZEN SCHOLARS PROGRAM

The application consists of two parts: a short answer and a formal essay. Students should upload these as one document to simmons.edu/kotzen by December 1. Please note: both the Kotzen application and the admission application (either Common App or Simmons App) need to be submitted by December 1 for consideration.

Short Answer Essay (no more than 250 words): How would you use your additional annual award of $3,000; for study abroad, short-term courses, summer internship, and/or research support?

Formal Essay (no more than 500 words): In what manner can a woman most effectively lead change in today’s world?

Interview Finalists chosen for scholarship consideration will be notified mid-January and required to complete an on-campus interview which will be conducted in February.
