H ello and good afternoon, or evening, whichever game you're reading this.

Welcome back to Mossie Park for our Pre-Season schedule of fixtures. I would also like to extend the welcome to our visitors from Chorley, Clitheroe and Lancaster City.

Some of you know me by now, but for those that are unfamiliar, I started working for Charnock Richard F.C. almost 12 months ago. I was a Chorley FC supporter of 21 years, and I congratulate them on gaining promotion last season to the National League.

Starting last season, I took on the role of helping out with the clubs social media presence, especially during matches. I feel Twitter and Facebook are vital to a football club, giving those who can't get to games instantaneous messages from the club as to how the team are progressing on the field through the internet, which I'm sure a lot of supporters use! Off the field, an online appearance can help the club strongly with advertising events and forthcoming matches etcetera.

Since, I have been admitted to the committee in December last year, and I am now immensely proud to take on the role of Programme Editor, out of the good hands of Dave Smith. It'll be a tough act to follow, but I'm relishing the opportunity. I hope you enjoy the publications throughout the coming season as I will enjoy producing them for you to read.

Obviously, on the pitch, a lot has happened in the weeks following Wes's departure from the club as First Team Manager at the end of last season, as I'm sure you'll read throughout the programme. We welcome Ryan Donnellan who makes the step up from Assistant Manager. I'm sure he will be more than capable of filling the boots left by Wes, as a brand new era begins for the club. Best of luck Raz! Lets hope we see a similar photo at the end of the coming season, as the one on the front cover of this programme!

Enjoy the pre-season!

Ian Livesey, Programme Co-ordinator

F irstly, once again, I like to thank the Football Club for giving me this opportunity, something which I

have taken with both hands and gone above and beyond to make sure the transition has been a smooth one. Many people have embraced the change as I want to move forward positively rather than tending to do the same things and end up stuck in rut.

The lads have worked extremely hard over the last 10 session which included different types of training to get the best out of them, something that they have enjoyed although it being very tough. Massive thanks to Simon Holland Personal Trainer, Chris Dennis of CDP Fitness and MSA Chorley Muay Thai Boxing for hosting us.

Also I’d like to thank our main sponsor PAR Group for supplying us with new management, warm up and sub attire, something which I was keen to secure in order to create a professional image and atmosphere on match days. Whilst I am thanking people I’d like to thank committee members for their hard work around the ground in the last few weeks to improve our facility in particular Dave Smith who has done an awful lot to help me out.

The introduction of my first team coach Dan Crofts has been a breath of fresh air and got the lads training to a high standard.

Also I’d like to welcome Goalkeeping coach Gaz Jones and Physio Kate Smith to the new set up two very important additions.

Over the coming weeks we have some really good fixtures with a mixture of higher and lower division opposition that will test us, but also give myself an idea of where we are at and what needs to be done. I’ve brought a few new faces into the club and wish them the very best for the coming season. I’m hoping to add one or two others in the coming weeks.

Today takes us into a ‘New Era’ of this football club and I intend it to be a successful one. If we can keep players fit and play the way I want to play, Im pretty sure we can compete for a top 3 position but also at the same time we have to take things one step at a time.

Finally I hope you enjoy the changes I’ve implemented over the last few months on and off the pitch and you give the lads your full backing. Win, Lose or Draw, we stick together.

THE MANAGER RYAN DONNELLAN

G ood afternoon and welcome to Mossie Park for this pre-season fixture. On behalf of everyone at

Charnock Richard FC, I would like to welcome the management, players, club officials and supporters from our pre-season opponents Chorley, Lancaster City and Clitheroe. We hope you all have a very enjoyable day here at our club and have a safe journey back home.

Reflecting back to last season, it was another strong campaign with a second successive sixth position in the NWCFL Premier Division and we must thank Andy Westwell, his backroom team and of course the players for another excellent season. It will be rather strange starting the new season without Andy at the helm following an 18 year reign as first team manager but we now look forward to a new era at the club with former Reserve manager Ryan Donnellan taking charge of our first team and Ian Mountain joining the club to manage our Reserve Team. Pre-season training in recent weeks has gone well and it is very encouraging to see that we have retained the majority of last season’s successful first team squad. As with last season, our objective again this year will be to stay competitive throughout the season and aim for another finish in the upper half of the league.

At the end of the coming season, we will see more restructuring of the non-league system by FA’s Leagues Committee, with the promise of a new Step 4 league being created to reduce the travelling distances for North-East based clubs at Step 4. The result of this will mean that more Step 5 clubs will be promoted than usual at the end of the new season. It has recently been confirmed that three teams will be promoted from the NWCFL Premier Division next season, which should no doubt create a highly competitive league as many of the big clubs in our league will be chasing that top three promotion spot.

As always, the work at the club never really stops for many of our volunteers and we have all been busy working on the ground over recent weeks with lots of cleaning, painting and general maintenance

work being carried out to keep the quality of our facilities as high as possible. In total contrast to last season, where we experienced a severe lack of rain during the off-season, we have been blessed with much better weather in recent months which means we will have a high quality pitch surface to start our pre-season fixtures.

For the new season, the prices for ground admission and season tickets will remain unchanged from last year. If you wish to purchase a season ticket for league games, then please let me know before our first league home game in early August and I will ensure that your name is added to the season ticket list. The matchday programme will once again cost £2 for the new season and we welcome our new programme editor Ian Livesey who has recently taken over duties from Dave Smith. On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to thank Dave for his excellent contribution to our matchday programme over the past two seasons.

For all of our three pre-season fixtures here at Mossie Park we entertain teams from higher levels in the non-league system, so it will be interesting to see how we match up against higher league opposition. The results of these games are not particularly important but they provide us with the chance to look at some of the new signings and more importantly get the squad match fit and ready for the start of competitive matches in early August.

You may be aware that Temporary Dismissals (Sin Bins) will be introduced for all leagues at Step 5 or below for the new season, as a measure to control dissent from on-field players. For all of our pre-season home fixtures, we will face teams at Step 4 or above, so therefore Sin Bins will not be used during these matches. No doubt this new initiative will most certainly provide an interesting talking point throughout the season.

That’s all from me for now but please enjoy your day and hopefully we can look forward to seeing you again at Mossie Park as the season progresses.

06 THE OFFICIAL CHARNOCK RICHARD FOOTBALL CLUB PROGRAMME

FROM THE CHAIRMAN SHAUN TOOTELL

THE BOARDROOM SHAUN TOOTELL

Good afternoon and welcome to Mossie Park for thisthird home league game of the season for CharnockRichard FC in the Hallmark Security League. On behalfof everyone here at Charnock Richard, I would like towelcome the management, players and committeefrom St Helens Town. We hope you all have a veryenjoyable day at our club and have a safe journeyback home.

Our first ever home league game two weeks ago againstAlsager Town was a bit of a wake-up call for us all andshowed everyone that we can expect to face some verydifficult opponents in this league. It is however veryencouraging that as I write this article, the team has sincebounced back with two excellent away wins at Silsden andWhitchurch Alport. We were advised by the league thatone of the management committee would be present at ourfirst home game to offer advice and support on the day andit was the league Ground Grading Chairman GeoffWilkinson who visited us on the day. Geoff is very wellknown to us all here at Charnock and has been offering theclub valuable advice on ground grading matters over anumber of years. It is fair to say that Geoff’s advice hashelped to save the club a lot of money which could havebeen spent unwisely as we developed the Mossie Parkfacility.

On the day, Geoff took the opportunity to update us on ourcurrent Ground Grading status. For those who are notfamiliar with the grading standards, grounds must initiallymeet the FA Grading Standard H to gain promotion into theNorth West Counties League. Following admission into theleague, all clubs must then meet Grading Standard G bythe 31st March in the following year (in our case 31stMarch 2017). The difference between Grade G and H isvery minimal - Grade H requires a minimum coveredspectator accommodation of 50, whereas Grade Grequires a minimum covered spectator accommodation of100 (of which 50 must be seated and located in onestand). Both Grading Standards state ‘All seating mustafford a good view of the pitch’ and whilst our currentseated stand holds just over 100 seats, only the higher 50seats meet this criteria due to the potential for standingspectators along the touchlines blocking the views from thelower seats. It is fair to say that we have visited othergrounds recently and the same argument could be raisedas to whether some ground level seating at other venuesafford a good view of the pitch but we will leave that forothers to debate.

At the end of the day we have a responsibility to complywith the Ground Grading Regulations, so we have apredicament which must be resolved within the next sixmonths. One option would be to raise the height of thecurrent stand to ensure all that all 100 plus seats afford agood view of the pitch - not an easy option but notimpossible. A second option would be to build a coveredstanding area to accommodate 50 or 100 spectators sothat we can meet the Grade G requirements. Theseissues will be discussed at the next committee meetingwhich will be held in a few days’ time and hopefully wewill agree our preferred strategy going forward. Oneissue we mustn’t forget is that should we be the fortunateposition to challenge for promotion to the PremierDivision next season, then the ground must the meet therequirements of Grade F which will almost certainlyrequire us to raise the height of the stand to allow all 100plus seats to give a good view of the pitch.

On a final note I would like to thank many of you whoattended our recent Reserve league game at home toWorkington Reserves. Not only did we get an excellentattendance on a Monday evening but it is fair to say thatit was a superb game of football played by two excellentyoung sides who were both a credit to the game. I lostcount of how many spectators came up to me after thematch to say that they had thoroughly enjoyed the game.

That’s enough from me for the time being, so pleaseenjoy your day and hopefully we can look forward toseeing you again at Mossie Park as the seasonprogresses.

W elcome to Mossie Park for our pre-season fixtures against near neighbours Chorley on Saturday

6th July, Lancaster City on Tuesday 16th July and Clitheroe on Saturday 20th July.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Chorley on achieving promotion to the top tier of the National League following an excellent 2018-19 campaign. Well done one and all at Victory Park.

Thankfully the seasonal round of AGM’s, EGM’s, tutorials and seminars are now out of the way for another twelve months. Pre-season training accompanies a frenetic period of player registration, as we prepare for the rigours of the 2019-20 campaign. Competition in the North West Counties League will be even more intense next season with Skelmersdale United returning to the fold, following relegation from the Northern Premier League and with promoted sides from Division 1 with the quality of Longridge Town, Rylands and Avro. Added to this, there will be three promotion places up for grabs at the end of term. As a result, there is no doubt that clubs will be increasing the strength of their squads in an attempt to finish in a top three place. We will be starting our third season in the Premier Division and it doesn’t seem that long ago when we were enthusiastically preparing for life in the North West Counties League Division 1 for the very first time following a 23 year stint in the West Lancashire League. I believe that the West Lancashire League is one of the best competitions at Step 7 in the National League System and is an ideal ‘stepping stone’ for progressive clubs at county league level.

We have, of-course, the FA Cup and FA Vase to look forward to; neither draw having taken place on going to press. The Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy starts in late September and here again, we are awaiting the draw with eager anticipation. The League Challenge Cup has thrown up away ties for us in the First Round with a game at Bacup Borough on Saturday October 19th and if successful a Second Round tie at either Abbey Hey or Holker Old Boys on Saturday 9th November.

The pre-season fixture programme is well balanced with three games at home and three away against a variety of selected opposition. This is also the case with the reserve team’s pre-season fixtures. We started our pre-season preparations back in March when contacts were made and established with clubs and match

officials. So ‘football’ these days is a continuous and never ending cycle. There is little in the way of a break between the closing of one season and the start of the next. I had a few days away in Dublin at the end of May but not away from football however, as I took in the Shamrock Rovers versus Cork City League of Ireland Premier League game at the Tallaght Stadium. In the evenings I was still dealing with club matters; having taken my lap top with me. One of the’ Hoops’ supporters asked me “Dave, sure now, what would be your alternative to football?” I replied “Death”.

During the summer a good deal of work has been put in around Mossie Park with players putting in a shift in the training sessions. This doesn’t just happen by chance with Ryan and his staff having to meticulously plan the schedules. The pitches have been carefully ‘manicured’ with a great deal of skill and effort by the ground staff. Ground maintenance’ an onerous task to say the least, has to be done to keep Mossie Park up to the required standard for Charnock to compete at Step 5 in the National League System. All these things do not happen by magic. Thanks to all who have given of their precious time and effort.

It is great to see that almost the whole of last season’s squad have signed up for the 2019-20 season and we have a few new faces on board to swell the ranks. As we found in our first season in the North West Counties League in 2016-17, a healthy number of quality players are required at this level.

As mentioned above, we begin our summer programme on the 6th July with a prestigious game against our illustrious neighbours Chorley and we hope that the weather holds and that we get a sizable attendance. This will be followed with a visit from the ‘Dolly Blues’ of Lancaster City on the Tuesday 16th July and four days later we welcome Ribble Valley side Clitheroe to Mossie Park.

Once again, we would like to place on record our grateful thanks to Chorley, Lancaster City and Clitheroe as well as the three sets of match officials for agreeing to the pre-season games here at Mossie Park and to Daisy Hill, Lostock St Gerard’s and Silsden for accommodating us on our travels. We wish you all a successful and enjoyable 2019-20 season.

Thank you for visiting Mossie Park and for purchasing the programme. We hope that you enjoy your football and if this is your first visit, we hope that we will see you again.

SECRETARY'S REPORT DAVE ROWLAND

SECRETARY’S REPORT DAVE ROWLAND

Welcome to Mossie Park for this afternoon’s DivisionOne game against Sandbach United who are visitingus for the very first time and a warm Charnock welcome to all who have travelled up from deepestCheshire to be with us today. We hope that you willenjoy your stay and have a safe and trouble-free journey home after the game. The East Cheshire sideare a friendly and welcoming club as we found outwhen visiting them on that ill-fated fog-bound afternoon at the end of November. It is hoped that wecan return their excellent hospitality today.

I first met United’s secretary, John Clayton, and a coupleof their committee, at the Imperial Hotel on the NorthPromenade in Blackpool when attending the North WestCounties League AGM back on the 11th June. Applicantclubs were asked to remain outside of the meeting untilbeing summoned by League Chairman Paul Lawler whenthe representatives from each of the six applicants werecalled upon to give an introductory speech to the assembled throng before being voted in by the memberclubs. As we waited nervously in an adjacent room, SteveMawdesley and I got into conversation with the Sandbachcontingent and quickly found them to be a very sociablegroup. We got on with them immediately and it was andenjoyable exchange. That day we made our first friends inthe North West Counties League and long may it continue.

Sandbach United are one of the six newcomers to theNorth West Counties League this season and spent theprevious campaign at Step 7 in the Cheshire Leaguewhere they finished in 4th spot in the Premier Division.Like most of the newly promoted clubs they have made agood impression in their first season in the competitionand we wish them well. Today is of course our last homegame of the season not withstanding any play-off gamethat we may be involved in. To say that it has been a special one would be an understatement. We have enjoyed some wonderful football, been to many differentvenues for the first time, met some really great people andmade many new friends. When we left our comfort zone inthe West Lancashire League, we did so because the clubhad grown and developed to a point where new challenges and new horizons had become a necessity.

A new direction was needed if the club was to grow. Remaining stagnant was not an option. We have hadproblems to contend with. Finding funding for essentialground development and finding an appropriate level forour reserve side was only a couple of examples. The immediate aim was to consolidate at Step 6 level in theNational League System and to be in a position to sustain this in the long term. The players of our threesenior teams have had a fine season and once again thishas been due to the management skills and dedication ofthe management teams of all three. On the administration side, we have been joined by David Smithand Brian Lowe who have very kindly agreed to give oftheir precious time and for this we are very grateful.

For me, this is my fifth season as secretary and I canhonestly say, hand on heart, that the 2016-17 campaignis one of the best that I have enjoyed in football. At timesit has been hard graft and there are many individualswho have put in a good deal of that this term, literally. It isthe combined efforts of you all that make this, such aspecial football club and such a wonderful place to be.Of course, we do not know just how things will pan out asafter today. Indeed, we have three very difficult awaygames to negotiate. Whether we are in the play-offs ornot is anybody’s guess but it is a sign of the success thatwe have enjoyed, when we are still talking about wherewe will finish amongst the top group at this stage of affairs. Whatever occurs, well done one and all.

Dave Rowland | Club Secretary

BEGINNINGS. Chorley FC began life as a rugby club, before switching to association football in 1883. Known

as The Magpies since the 1890s because of their distinctive black and white striped shirts, the Club have played in six different leagues during a 135-year existence.

LEAGUESAfter a series of friendly matches against Wigan, Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers in the 1880s, Chorley joined the Lancashire Junior League in 1889. The following year the league became the Lancashire Alliance, where the Club played through 1894 before leaving to join the Lancashire League.

They also competed in the Lancashire Combination and Cheshire County League before becoming a founder member of the Northern Premier League in 1968.

Promotion as champions of the NPL in ’88 resulted in The Magpies highest finish on the English football pyramid the following year (17th in the Football Conference), before they succumbed to relegation back to the NPL in 1990.

After the brief spell in the fifth tier, Chorley slipped slowly down through the divisions and flirted with relegation to the North West Counties League. Then, with the appointment of Gary Flitcroft as manager in 2010, the Club began a remarkable revival.

Two promotions in four seasons saw The Magpies, roared on by an average crowd almost five-times higher than during the Noughties, catapulted into the National

League North after a final day victory at Buxton in April 2014 secured a second NPL championship crown.

In what was to be Flitcroft’s last season in charge, the Club almost made a triumphant return to the Football Conference. Unfortunately, The Magpies failed to win a second-successive promotion after losing the NLN play-off final 3-2 to Guiseley in May 2015.

Assistant manager Matt Jansen took the reigns that summer, and although The Magpies missed a play-off berth in 2015/16, they returned the following season only to lose a second play-off final. This time in front of over 8,000 fans at FC Halifax Town.

Yet another play-off appearance was booked in April 2018. However, Harrogate Town edged the semi-final 2-1 with an injury time winner. The defeat was Jansen’s last game in charge.

Assistant Jamie Vermiglio took over the day after Jansen departed and led The Magpies to National League North playoff success 10 months later, returning the Club to the fifth tier of English football with a 4-3 penalty victory over Spennymoor Town at Victory Park.

CUP RUNSThe Club have appeared in the FA Cup first round eleven times; 1899-1900, 1938-39, 1945-46, 1963-64, 1978-79, 1985-86, 1986-87, 1987-88, 1990-91, 2017/18 & 2018/19.

Knocking out Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 in the First Round second replay at Burnden Park, Bolton, in 1986-87 being a highlight. The second round saw Preston North End taken to a replay at Deepdale, before the Club succumbed 5-0 in front of 16,308.

The second round was also reached in 1990 with a 2-1 win over Bury at Victory Park, before The Magpies were knocked out 1-0 at Shrewsbury Town.

The 2017/18 campaign saw a return to the first round after a 27-year absence, only for Fleetwood Town to come from behind to win 2-1 at Victory Park in front of the BT Sport cameras.

The following season Doncaster Rovers were taken to a replay after a 2-2 draw at Victory Park.

Chorley’s best season in the FA Trophy was 1995-96, when they made the semi-finals before losing over two legs to eventual winners Macclesfield Town. Previously The Magpies qualified for the quarter-finals in 1976-77, going out to Dagenham.

During that run The Magpies knocked out non-league giants Wimbledon in a second round replay at Fellows Park, Walsall. The first replay, at Victory Park, attracted Chorley’s highest Trophy attendance of 6,310.

Some Players to Watch

GK Matt UrwinRe-signed with The Magpies on the eve of last season after playing 54 of the club’s 55 games last season while on loan from League One Fleetwood Town.

CB Andy TeagueChorley’s captain and defensive leader. A Victory Park legend who’s risen through the non-league pyramid with the Club since signing in 2011. Recently voted the fourth best player to ever grace the Northern Premier League.

CB/CM Courtney Meppen-WalterFormer England youth international. FROM THE VAULT LOOKING BACK

SATURDAY 1ST MARCH 2003 WEST LANCASHIRE LEAGUE - PREMIER DIVISION SPRINGFIELDS 0 CHARNOCK RICHARD 3

Charnock made heavy weather of beating a poorSpringfields side who lie at the bottom of the table.Numerous chances were created but putting the ballin the net proved a major problem and Charnockmissed a great opportunity to improve on their goaldifference. It was almost half time before Charnock'sdominance produced a goal. One way traffic in thesecond half resulted in Bruno Vainsys scoring a second goal before Andy Roberts added the third wellinto injury time.

With Charnock still to play Springfields at home and moreimportantly the two teams meeting in the final of the Lancashire Amateur Shield today's game was an insighton how these games may pan out. Straight from the kickoff Charnock were on the attack and after two minutesAndy Taylor got in to the box to bring a good save out ofthe keeper. Then Kevin Allen made room in the area andthe keeper saved with his foot. Andy Roberts was the nextCharnock player to bring a save out of the keeper. Thehome team were restricted to long hopeful balls down fieldand shots from distance which were off target. Bruno Vaisnys then hit the ball miles over the bar when put in agood position by Kevin Allen. The home side nearly took asurprise lead after 25 minutes when a shot from distancehit the top of the angle of the bar and upright. Charnockwere still threatening at this time but no real clear cut

chances were made until the 40th minute when JohnSanderson won the ball in midfield, moved forward andfed BRUNO VAISNYS in the box who turned and hit theball home. Charnock then nearly added to their scorewith two good shots being blocked.

The second half was similar to the first with Charnocksimply dominating the play. Allen and Tong both had halfchances before a good move down the left saw JohnSanderson go clear but the keeper got down to push hissomewhat tame shot around the post. The second goalfinally came after 70 minutes when Damian Dashti gotclear down the right and hit a superb centre which wasmet by the head of VAISNYS. Andy Taylor was then clearbut failed to beat the keeper. Charnock continued topress forward and should have added to their score before ANDY ROBERTS deep in added time hit the thirdgoal. The game had been a very one sided affair and thehome team did not have a shot on target all the game.

Team: Barry Edge, John Hyde, Alan Archer, AdamTong, Dean Taylor, Gary Wright (Damian Dashti 62),Andy Roberts, Andy Taylor, John Sanderson, KevinAllen (Danny Green 80), Bruno Vaisnys.

Two Lancaster based clubs, Skerton F.C. (1897–1900) and Lancaster Athletic F.C.

(1905–11) had competed in the Lancashire Combination but both clubs folded without completing their final seasons fixtures, with Lancaster Athletic playing their final season in the West Lancashire Football League. The present club was then founded in the spring of 1911 as Lancaster Town F.C. and were admitted to Division Two of the Lancashire Combination for the start of the 1911–12 season after proving to the league and the Lancashire FA that they had no connection with the previous two clubs.

After World War I the Combination was reduced to a single division. The club finished as runners-up in 1919–20, and the following season the club made an unsuccessful bid to join the Third Division North of the Football League. However, they won the Combination for the first time in 1921–22 and in 1928–29 reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time losing 3–1 at home to Lincoln City. The following year they won the Combination for a second time and reached the FA Cup first round again this time losing 4–1 at New Brighton. The first round was reached again in 1930–31, 1931–32 and 1933–34, but the club lost on each occasion. Back-to-back league titles were won in 1934–35 and 1935–36, and in 1937 the club

adopted its current name, Lancaster City F.C., after the town was given city status as part of King George VI's coronation celebrations.

The club continued in the Combination until 1970 with varying degrees of success including an FA Cup second round appearance, losing to Gateshead, in 1947-48 and an Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy final victory in 1951-52, but by the end of the 1960s it was decided that a change was needed so for the 1970–71 season the club left the Combination to join the Northern Premier League, a league that had been established two years earlier. City again reached the second round of the FA Cup in 1972-73, losing 2-1 at Notts County and won the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy for a sixth time in 1974-75, but after finishing seventeenth in 1981–82 the club resigned from the Northern Premier League and dropped into the North West Counties League when financial difficulties took hold and forced them to fold and reform. Three years later they were relegated to the second tier after finishing second from bottom of the league. Despite having only finished thirteenth in 1986-87, the club were accepted into the newly formed Division One of the Northern Premier League thanks to in no small part to ground standard and support.

In 1994-95, after several seasons of consolidation and now managed by former Preston North End and Bury player Alan Tinsley, Lancaster won the Northern

Premier League Presidents Cup, their first trophy in twenty years, and the following season, as champions of Division One, were promoted to the Premier Division whilst also winning the Division One League Challenge Cup to complete a League and cup double. Two consecutive Northern Premier League Challenge Cup victories followed in 1999-2000 and 2000-02 under Tony Hesketh and after finishing eighth in 2003–04 the club were placed in the newly established Conference North. This proved to be a hugely successful period for Lancaster with the club enjoying healthy league positions and several cup successes as well as reaching the FA Cup first round proper on four occasions. However, following a club takeover, financial problems led to the club folding at the end of the 2006–07 season, in which they suffered a 10-point deduction for going into administration, and finished bottom of the league with one point. During the summer, the club reformed and were accepted back into Division One of the Northern Premier League.

2008–09 was the final season for ex-player Barrie Stimpson who was replaced as manager by the returning Hesketh. Lancaster lost the 2009–10 play-off final 1–0 at home to Colwyn Bay and unfortunately, despite another Presidents Cup Final triumph in 2011, Hesketh couldn't guide the club to a much desired promotion, finishing 7th in 2010–11 and 6th in 2011–12, eventually leaving early into the following season to be replaced by

ex-Sunderland and Darlington player Neil Wainwright. Wainwright left in February 2013 due to budget cuts and was in turn replaced by former Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers defender Darren Peacock who brought in former teammate and ex-QPR , West Ham United, Manchester City and England winger Trevor Sinclair as his assistant. Both Peacock and Sinclair left the club in September 2015 after a disappointing start to the season and City appointed former player Phil Brown as manager who, after leading the team to a top six finish and a narrow penalties defeat in the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy final to Chorley, then took City to the 2016–17 Northern Premier League Division One league title. However, after a bright start to the 2017-18 season the team then struggled, finishing in eighteenth position, and Brown left City after a torrid start to the 2018-19 season. Former Nelson and Ramsbottom United manager Mark Fell was brought as his replacement in October 2018 who, along with assistant manager Graham Lancashire, guided Lancaster to safety and a respectable 12th position in the table.

The club was formed as Clitheroe Central in 1877 at the Swan Hotel in Castle Street

by local businessmen. After playing in local leagues, and winning their first major trophy (the Lancashire Junior Cup in 1893), the club joined the Lancashire Combination in 1903 and dropped 'Central' from their name. During this period, Clitheroe played their games at the Upbrooks ground, located behind houses on Salthill Road and now partially built over. In 1925 the club moved a few hundred yards to its present home of Shawbridge.

Except for breaks during the First and Second World Wars (1914–18 and 1939–45) Clitheroe played in the Lancashire Combination until the end of the 1981–82 season. They won the Lancashire Combination Cup in the 1934–35 season and the League Championship in the 1979–80 season.

For the 1982–83 season the Lancashire Combination amalgamated with the Cheshire County League to become the North West Counties League. Clitheroe became one of the founder members, however the state of the ground meant they started in the third division. There then followed one of the most successful periods in the club's long history when under the guidance of manager Eric Whalley they won the Third, Second and First Divisions

in consecutive seasons, as well as securing the Lancashire Cup in 1985.

In the 1995–96 season when under the joint managership of Dennis Underwood and Gary Butcher they played at Wembley Stadium in the final of the FA Vase. Some 7,500 people watched the game against Brigg Town and although Clitheroe won against them earlier in the season in the FA Cup the club was beaten 3–0 in the Vase Final. A public appeal to help with the visit to Wembley saw £7,400 donated by townspeople and businesses.

The last decade of the 20th century saw most of the ten years spent getting the ground up to scratch with £130,000 being spent in the process. The sale of two players, Jon Penman and Carlo Nash, helped considerably with the expenditure on the ground. The club saw little success on the pitch after the Wembley visit until manager Steve Parry led them to the Floodlight Trophy by beating Kidsgrove Athletic 2–1 in the 1998–99 final.

Dave Burgess took over the management of the first team in 2000–01 after several successful years running the second string, with player Lee Sculpher as his assistant. In their first season they finished as league runners-up and FA Vase semi-finalists.

Work commitments led to Burgess standing down in 2001–02. Sculpher took over and again finished as league runners-up before losing 2–1 to Mossley in the League Cup

final at Bury's Gigg Lane ground.

Early cup exits the following season enabled the Blues to concentrate on the league and their away form saw the 2003–04 NWCFL championship won on the final day of the season with a 3–2 victory at Nantwich Town – a late goal from Neil Reynolds sealing the title, the trophy lifted by captain Adam Gardner and club stalwart Keith Lord. With the title came the reward of promotion to the Northern Premier League for the 2004-05 season.

In November 2004 Lee Sculpher resigned as manager and short spells in charge by Paul Byron, Tommy Lawson and Mark Smitheringale followed before Chris Stammers was appointed manager in September 2006. After the 10–1 loss to Kettering Town in the FA Trophy, Stammers tendered his resignation stating that he had taken the club as far as he could. His assistant Ash Berry took temporary charge of team affairs before the club appointed Neil Reynolds and Kendal's veteran player Peter Smith as the new management team in December. Smith took over sole managerial duties at the end of the 2008-09 season, going on to lead the club to 8th (2009–10) and 6th (2010–11) place finishes, the highest league placings in the club's history to date.

The end of the 2010-11 season saw Pete Smith replaced as manager by Carl Garner, club chairman of four years' standing. The vacant position of Chair was taken over

by Garner's long-standing deputy Anne Barker, who remains in the role. Early success for Garner in 2011-12 (including the Manager of the Month award) was followed by a tailing off in form. He resigned with ten games to go, Dave Burgess and Lee Sculpher returning on a temporary basis to see the season out.

Paul Moore took over the reins in 2012-13, leading Clitheroe to their record points haul and an 8th-place finish. In contrast, a poor start to the 2013-14 season, with early exits from the FA Cup and Trophy, saw Moore replaced by ex-Blue Simon Garner, son of former chairman/manager Carl. With his assistant (and another ex-Blue) Ryan Parr, Garner secured safety with a 17th-place finish, improving on this for 2014-15 with 13th place and an appearance in the Lancashire Challenge Trophy final (a 3-0 defeat to Chorley). The good work continued into 2015-16 when a strong playoff push only faltered in the closing weeks of the season, resulting in a creditable 7th-place finish. Garner and Parr stood down at the season's end, citing family reasons.

In April 2016, Simon Haworth was appointed manager, assisted by Gareth Roberts, with coaches Ian Johnson and Irfan Kawri. In May 2017 the management team were joined by Ben Kay, former joint manager at Ashton Athletic. In June 2017, Gareth Roberts left the role of Assistant Manager to join Skelmersdale United.

18 THE OFFICIAL CHARNOCK RICHARD FOOTBALL CLUB PROGRAMME

F rom the start of season 2019-2020, The FA are introducing temporary dismissals for all Leagues, Clubs and

Teams that sit outside the National League System from Step 7 and below, this includes Youth Leagues.

What is temporary dismissal? A temporary dismissal is a timed period away from playing the game if a player receives by the referee a yellow card for dissent (C2). This will be managed by the Referee and he will manage this process.

Clubs/ LeaguesIs this mandatory? From the start of season 2019-2020, yes this process will be implemented for those participants described above.

Is this for all cautions? At the minute this process is only for cautions that are received for dissent (C2).

Does this apply to all participants in the game? This process applies only to players and not substitutes or coaching staff.

How will we know if the referee has applied a temporary dismissal? The referee will show a yellow card and point to the touchline.

How long will the Temporary Dismissal last? 10 minutes for all matches of 90 minutes 8 minutes for all other matches

When does the time commence? The time commences when play restarts.

Can the player go back on after the time period? The player will be allowed back onto the field of play when the referee confirms he can, but there doesn’t need to be a stoppage in play.

Can we substitute a player when he is in the sin bin?A player cannot be substituted until the temporary dismissal has expired and not at all if all substitutes have been used.

Can a Temporary Dismissed player warm up?Yes

Will the Referee working on his own be able to control the Sin Bin Period?Yes if they follow the correct procedure.

What happens if there is not enough time left to complete the Temporary Dismissal time?If the sanction was given in the first half or before extra time, the player will recommence the Temporary Dismissal at the start of the next game period. If the game concludes before the sanction has expired, the sanction will end; there is no requirement for the player to serve the remainder of the time at the following match.

What happens if there are kicks from the penalty mark at the end of extra time and the sin bin has not expired? The player will be allowed to participate.

What is the sin bin area? There is no set defined sin bin area; the player must just be off the playing area.

23THE OFFICIAL CHARNOCK RICHARD FOOTBALL CLUB PROGRAMME

What happens if the Team go down to less than 7 players as a result of a Temporary Dismissal? If it is the player’s second sin bin and not permitted to return – the game will be abandoned.

Does this still get reported to the County FA?The referee will still need to report this to the County FA who will process the caution for the purpose of it being on the participant’s record, and the club will still be required to acknowledge this.

Is there still an administration fee?For a simple Temporary Dismissal of one offence in a game, no there is no £10 administration.

Does this caution count towards a caution accumulation? Yes, the will tally in accordance with the regulations for caution total regulations.

How do repeat offences work? If a player commits another offence (red or yellow card) during the sin bin period they cannot take any further part in the game and cannot be substituted. This also includes the period between being informed that he/she is temporarily dismissed ie: on the field of play as well as the time he/she leaves the field of play and begins the sin-bin period. If the player commits a non-dissent caution at any time on the field of play in addition to the sin bin period will continue to play. If the player commits a 2nd dissent caution (and no other offences) will receive a 2nd period in the sin bin. At the end of that period, the player can take no further part in the game but can be substituted. All other Laws of the Game remain unaffected, so if a player receives two cautions for a non-dissent caution they will be sent off in the normal manner.

THE GOLDLINE TROPHY FINALTEMPEST UNITED 0 CHARNOCK RICHARD 1Monday 13th November 2000

SAM SCOUT (Graham Randle) reports from The REEBOK STADIUM.

Team: Barry Edge, Kevin Fisher, Mark Lynch, Lee Cunliffe, Steve Iley, Trevor Mason, Josh Schofield, Sutton, Andy Roberts, John Kerrigan, Dean Taylor. Subs: Tommy Hegan, Kevin Allen, Hurst,

For this final I was asked to swop my Secretary's hat for my old ‘Sam Scout’ one and report for the local newspaper and our Match Day Programme on the Goldline Trophy Final which was held this season for the first time at Bolton Wanderers majestic Reebok Stadium. This new early season competition, which is only in its third year, involves teams from a number of different leagues, mainly from the Bolton area and this season resulted in two teams from the Asda Logic West Lancashire League contesting the final.

Before the game I spoke to our manager, Terry Gaskell, and told him that since moving from the Lancashire Constabulary in 1991 to take over the Charnock Richard secretary’s job from John Stringer I had been involved in four finals and had not won one of them. Terry reflected in his familiar Wigan accent “Tha’s no need to bother about that, weel win this one fo’ thi” His prediction was correct but on the night the lads made us all sweat a bit.Charnock had enough chances to have wrapped the game up before half time, but as they were not taken the game became an enthralling encounter, which was a superb advert for amateur football. And with the result always in doubt the large crowd were left on the edge of their seats until the end. Charnock dominated the first half but despite pressure on the Tempest goal were unable to put the ball into the net. John Kerrigan should have put Charnock ahead in the 25th minute when he latched onto a through ball and with just the keeper to beat put the ball wide. Minutes later Kevin Fisher crossed from the right but the ball bounced on top of the Tempest crossbar and away

to safety. With Barry Edge in the Charnock goal a virtual spectator, Charnock kept up the pressure but Lee Holden and the rest of the Tempest defenders held out. Another fierce shot was only partially saved by Andy Hassell in the Tempest goal and the Charnock supporters gasped as the loose ball was again put wide. The Charnock pressure continued and Tempest were forced into making several rather rash challenges to keep their goal intact. In fact I lost count of the number of times that the referee got out his pen and waved the yellow card in the Tempest player’s faces. These tactics were however appearing to play off and with half time approaching it looked as if the teams would go in on level terms, but Andy ROBERTS had other ideas as he broke the deadlock with a ‘peach’ of a goal. Kerrigan broke clear on the right hand side, squared the ball across to Robbo whose first time fierce low hard effort from near the penalty spot gave Hassall no chance whatsoever. It was a goal worthy of winning any football match. The second half became more even as Tempest tried to get back into the game and play moved from end to end. Barry Edge was then called into serious action for the first time in the match when he turned away a low shot and was relieved to see the resulting corner headed inches over his crossbar. Edge was then forced to make several further saves as the Tempest pressure increased but a long range shot from Kerrigan on the counter attack was well saved by Hassall. As the game drew to a close the Tempest pressure increased even more and it seemed only a matter of time before they equalised, however, a sound display by Steve Iley and some late brilliant goalkeeping by Edge prevented them from doing so. Towards the end Charnock broke away and Lee Cunliffe found himself in a position to make the game safe for Charnock. He had just the goalkeeper to beat from close range but his weak shot was easily saved. The final whistle sounded with Tempest attacking and as the relieved Charnock players climbed the steps to collect their medals it was appropriate that Robbo should be the one who collected the magnificent glass trophy from Nat Lofthouse.

TURTON 1 CHARNOCK RICHARD 1Monday 2nd August 2004Goldline Trophy Group A

Team: Dave McDonough, Lee Sinclair, John Hyde, Lee Cunliffe, Dean Taylor, Iain Bland (Craig Duckworth 82), Andy Roberts, Neil Westhead, Chris Lee, Simon Fadden, John Sanderson (Kevin Allen 60).Subs: (Not Used) Keiran McConville, Paul Mallen.

How Charnock managed come away with a point from this game will always remain a mystery. It was however sufficient to put them in the runner’s up spot in Group A and hence they qualified for the quarter finals. Under the cosh for most of the game, Fadden gave them the lead after eight minutes which they held onto until the early stages of the second half. The remainder of the second half saw Charnock’s goal under siege and there were three clearances off the line just when the home bench were shouting “goal”.

Simon Fadden came into the team for his first game of the season with Kevin Allen relegated to the bench. Webster was out injured so Westhead started in midfield. New signing Paul Mallen was on the bench.

The pitch was in good condition but the grass was a little long.

The early stages of the game produced little goalmouth action with the home team having the majority of the play. Charnock took the lead against the run of play after only eight minutes when FADDEN beat the offside trap down the left, the keeper rushed out of his goal and Simon sidestepped him near the touch line and cut inside to hit a shot from distance into the corner of unattended goal. The home team continued to have the majority of the play. Fadden was looking very lively up front for Charnock but support for him was lacking. Some wild shooting by Turton meant that McDonough was not really troubled. The visitor’s defence again looked very vulnerable and corners in particular were causing problems. It was from a poorly defended right wing corner

that the ball was headed out only to be met 12 yards out with a great shot but McDonough beat the ball away. Half time came with Charnock still holding the lead but the second half became all one way as the home team piled on the pressure. They equalised on 56 minutes when Cunliffe gave away a free kick on the edge of the area, McDonough got his hand on the ball and as it rolled towards goal it was hacked off the line but a shot from an acute angle found the roof of the net. Turton now went all out for the winner and Charnock attacks were few and far between. Bland set up Sanderson who turned and his shot was just past the post. The referee was proving to be very fussy and in an innocuous game with very few serious fouls managed to book four Charnock players and one from the home side. Turton pushed on and should surely have won the game easily but goal line clearances from the visitors when the ball looked odds on to finish up in the net kept their quarter final hopes alive. Charnock actually won a corner late on in the half as the home team finally ran out of steam. Charnock will have to improve considerably if they are to progress beyond the next round.

W elcome to what will hopefully become a regular column within our matchday programme this

season, designed to keep everyone up to date with our Junior section and teams. Having just stepped down as Chairman, I’ve been tasked with helping build links between our Football sections in different ways, and hopefully this will be just one of the ways I can achieve this.

Over the years, our Junior section has grown and grown to the current day where for the 2019-2020 season we have an under 5’s team, under 6’s, 3 under 7’s teams, 3 under 8’s teams, an under 9’s team, 2 under 10’s teams, an under 11’s team, under 12’s team, under 13’s team, under 14’s team, under 15’s team, under 16’s team and a Youth team. These represent the club in The Wigan League, Mid Lancs Colts Junior Football League, Central Lancs Junior Football League and the Lancashire Sunday League.

Provision of the opportunity for these teams to participate in football comes through a large team of very dedicated volunteers. The managers and coaches – some of whom have represented the senior teams at Charnock – work tirelessly to create a positive environment for our youngsters to play football in.

Long term, our goal is to see players make their football journey through our Junior teams into our Senior teams. Hopefully we will see more players like Spencer Bibby succeed in making it all the way through from Juniors to the first team. We’ve had a number of players who have done so over the years, but always strive to increase this number to

help the long-term future of the club be as secure as possible with players representing us who have a genuine love and affiliation to the club developed over many years.

We will profile all our teams over the coming season in this column, where you will find out about the many hot prospects we have coming through aiming to be the next Carl Grimshaw, Ash Young, Ross O’Farrell or Nathan Fairhurst. We also hope to see the younger teams escorting the lads out before matches, acting as mascots and having the opportunity to play on the hallowed turf of Mossie Park at the half time interval. We will also be taking a look at former Junior players who have gone on to have notable careers within the game.

There are always games on at Mossie Close on a Sunday morning during the season from September to May, so if you are ever after a football fix, please do get down and support the youngsters. If you are interested in supporting the junior section by volunteering or sponsorship, please feel free to contact myself or any of the Junior Committee, whose details can be found on the Junior website, www.charnockrichardjfc.co.uk (a link is on the main website.)

I hope you enjoy our pre-season matches ahead of our new season and give your full support to our new manager and the players as they enter what has been dubbed the ‘New Era’. It’s certainly exciting to be part of and promises to be interesting every step of the way.

H ello. I am the new reserve team manager and will try to give you an update throughout the

season of how things are going. I was lucky to be asked to come and join the management structure after no previous involvement with the club. I thank Phil and Alan for recognising me when Stoneclough, my previous club, hosted Charnock Reserves in the semi- final of a cup a few years ago, that led to here. Thanks to Ryan and the committee for allowing me the chance and our sponsors LG UK and Kool Planet. I am very happy to be joining a great club with such standing in the regional football world. Thanks to all the people at the club who so far have made me feel welcome and helped to take some of the pressure away, it feels like there is a great sense of community.

I have looked into the history of the club and I know that I'm joining at a time of real transition. Reserve team management is widely known to be a difficult task in football, there are so many roles a reserve team have to fulfill, that often contradict each other. It’s hard to create consistency. Our aim is to narrow the gap between the first and reserve teams as quickly as we can. We will be looking at fully supporting the first team and helping develop players for the long term future and further success of the club. It can be tricky, so I’m again incredibly lucky that my colleagues in the management team are so brilliant.

Paul Charnley has worked with the reserves before and helped lead them to successes recently. Paul Billington has had success in the local football community. Thomas

Charnley has won things as both player and management staff at Charnock. They are enthusiastic, hard working, they already know so much about football but are always looking to learn more and want to play good football and win matches. We are hoping that our players buy into this and have a memorable season.

Pre season has been a success so far, given the changes. We have had a lot of good young players turn up eager to play for the club. This has created a few good headaches We will need to try and get numbers down to a manageable size for August 3rd, but all the players are happy to fight for their inclusion and will all get the chance to do that in match situations over the next few weeks. We are hoping to build a squad that has a spine of experience to allow some of the younger players to develop and reach their potential while being competitive in a more physical league than they may be used to.

It’s a transition time in our league as well, with the addition of 6 new first teams to our division. There are also some difficult, distant, away days. We are going to spend a lot of our time on helping the squad develop a spirit that is just as competitive on a snowy day on a tough pitch in Barrow as a sunny day on our bowling green at home. If their decision making is right in all these areas, they stand a great chance of reaching their potential which helps them and the club.

Football isn’t straight forward and we know that there may be some ups and downs throughout the season. We will work hard to make this side competitive and successful,in all of the aims we have as a reserve side. . We would appreciate your support and we should be in the clubhouse a lot if you want to say hello and chat.

T oday is the first Saturday in July and once again we are starting our pre-season friendly matches. There will

be the usual chorus of complaints that it is too early for football to be getting under way but it is 10 weeks since Charnock played their final fixture of the 2018/9 season and it will be another four weeks before the season really kicks off.

Most supporters spend around 40 weeks following their club and it is sometimes difficult to find alternative Saturday afternoon entertainment in the close season I must confess that I even spent one afternoon shopping. My excuse was that I had a discount voucher that ran out on that day.

There was a comment a few weeks ago that for pre-season preparations coaches now prefer friendly games rather than the endless weeks of boring physical work-outs that used to be the normal format. Pre-season friendly games also provide an opportunity for clubs to meet that that would not normally be playing each other but of course the final result has no impact once the season starts.

After three successful years in the NWCL season 2019/20 promises to again provide plenty of action; for a start the departure of Andy Westwell from the manager’s seat after 18 years will inevitably make an impact, hopefully the overall effect will not be too apparent. In Ryan Donnellen we have a manager who is dedicated to the club having been involved for many years both as a player and a coach at both junior and senior levels. We wish him well as he takes on the responsibility of maintaining success at Charnock Richard Football Club.

As usual during the close season several players have left the club and there are a number of new signings. To those that have departed for pastures new we wish them well in their future careers. Amongst the players joining the club are several that have appeared in the green strip of Charnock previously and are returning, perhaps because playing elsewhere has not met expectations, so it is welcome back with a hope that they are happy to continue at Mossie Park in the future.

It will be no surprise to say that, like most football clubs in the country, avoiding relegation will be the first objective of the first team whilst the reserve team must concentrate on gaining promotion. We have already been drawn away in both the first two rounds of the Macron Cup in the coming season so it will be interesting to see if we can ‘come out of the hat’ as the home team in both the FA Cup and FA Vase this season. You should know the draws for the first two rounds of both competitions by the time that you read this. There is no doubt that a decent run in either the Vase or the FA Cup would be especially welcome both from a player/supporter aspect and certainly from a financial point of view.

There are several changes to the laws of the game this season, more than usual, affecting hand balls, ‘walls’ at free kicks, goal kicks, goalkeepers positions for penalties and players leaving the field when substituted. Perhaps the most interesting one is the use of ‘sin bins’ at Steps 5, 6 and 7; players abusing the referee will have to spend 10 minutes on the side lines. It will be interesting to see the response to this new law with a number of Charnock’s players liking to make their response to decisions they consider unfair known to referees.

Video Assisted Refereeing (VAR) has again been a talking point with its use in most of the football competitions staged since last April; it will now be used for all games in the Premier League in the coming season so it will be interesting to see what response it receives both by spectators at the games and by viewers in matches that are televised. I have no doubt that I will be commenting further on the subject as the season develops.

So the stage is set for another absorbing season at Mossie Close both off the field and on it whether you are a regular supporter, just an occasional visitor or a follower of one of the teams visiting pre-season I hope that the next nine months prove to be entertaining.

Due to printing and editor deadlines I have to writethis final column of the season with four leaguegames outstanding so it is impossible to comment onCharnock’s final position in the table and, most importantly, where they will be playing their footballnext season. Will it be in the Premier Division by automatic promotion or through the play-offs ormaybe we will have to be satisfied with having a second season in Division One but whatever happensit has been a very successful and exciting first seasonin the North West Counties League.

This season saw Charnock make their debut in the FAVase and it has been very satisfactory but with a little bit ofluck it could have been even more successful. In the preliminary rounds we won at Whickham in the North Eastthen visited Yorkshire to beat Harrogate Railway Athletic. The First Round Proper saw a home tie against old opponents Barnoldswick Town which we won after extratime. The home defeat at Mossie Park at the hands ofStaveley Miners Welfare was largely due to having to fieldan understrength team; suspensions for Spencer Bibby,Josh Norgate and Mike Fletcher all made them ineligible,Ashley Young missed through a knee problem and thenlosing Danny Smith to injury before half time and a missedpenalty all contributed to the defeat. If we had won wewould have had a trip up to play South Shields of theNorthern League who are now through to the Wembleyfinal. At the time they were averaging gates of over 1200.Win or lose it would have been a bumper pay day for theclub with a share of the gate receipts and more FA money for reaching that stage of the competition. As it was Staveley made the journey, pocketed the money andlost 3-0.

Charnock were drawn away to Bamber Bridge in the firstround of the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy, it was ourdebut in the competition and against all the odds cameaway with a 2-0 win. Drawn away at Ashton Athletic in thenext round we had plenty of chances to win the game inthe first half but in the end lost 1-0. Ashton went on to win2-1 against Radcliffe Borough in the final at the MacronStadium after knocking out Chorley in the semi-final. A littlemore accuracy with our shooting at Ashton and who knowswhat could have happened? In our league cup debuts wemade early exits in both competitions. In the Macron Cupwe were unlucky to lose 2-1 at Handley Town, the winningpenalty being awarded for the ball hitting Josh Norgate’sshoulder. We successfully negotiated our way through theReusch First Division Cup to the quarter-finals where welost 4-1 at home to Widnes.

Football squads inevitably evolve over the years and anumber of new signings were made for this season. Some players have fitted in well and have made regularappearances others disappeared; several did not evenmake one appearance. Over previous seasons CarlGrimshaw and David Burrows formed a successful goalscoring partnership for the club. Last season they totalled77 goals between them and there was the expectancythat they would score a similar number this season. Unfortunately domestic problems resulted in Dave making himself unavailable and he has been sorely missed.

In the 2015-16 season Damian Dashti passed the landmark of 500 appearances for the first team and hehas continued to feature in most match squads this season. He is now approaching 550 appearances whichis another remarkable record of dedication to CharnockRichard FC. There have been other impressive performances by players this season but for me oneplayer has stood out above anyone else - Ross O’Farrellhas had an outstanding season to date. Ross is anotherplayer that has been at Charnock for almost all his career first appearing in the ‘A’ team back in season2007-08 from where he has worked his way up to become a regular in the first team squad. He is mychoice as “Player of the Year”.

Finally I must mention the support that the club have enjoyed both home and away. To date home attendanceshave only dropped below 100 once and the average sofar is 140. Everyone at the club has put in a remarkableamount of time and effort and come May we will be looking forward to our second season in the North WestCounties League. I hope to be writing this column againnext season, many thanks for reading it.
