• Working as entomological researcher and consultant on pistachio nuts at the Green Valley Nuts Estate, Prieska District, Northern Cape Province (2000–2004).

• Biodiversity study of insects and arachnids undertaken at Ndumo Game Reserve in northern KwaZulu-Natal during November-December 2000. This self-initiated project was funded by the University of the Free State, and included the preparation of an insect collection for the reserve (ongoing project).

• Biodiversity study of insects and arachnids undertaken at Tembe Elephant Park, northern KwaZulu-Natal, during January 2002. This self-initiated project, funded by the University of the Free State, included an insect collection prepared for the reserve.

• Research conducted at the Mohale Dam in the Lesotho Highlands during March and December 2003 on the invertebrate diversity and necessity for rescue of invertebrates from the inundation zone of the dam. This project was funded by the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA).

• Consultation work conducted at Sishen Iron Ore Mine during March 2003 on the possible impacts of mine expansion on the invertebrate fauna of the area.

• Research conducted in the Maluti Mountains in southern Lesotho during November 2003 to determine the diversity of arachnids in the area. This work forms part of the project “Conserving Mountain Biodiversity in Southern Lesotho.”

• Consultation work conducted in the Kgalagadi Municipal District in the Northern Cape and North West Provinces during December 2003 and January 2004 to determine the diversity of terrestrial invertebrates in the area.
