CHARLESKEITH JOHN gAUTIER, Consultant Radio- logist to the N~erthyr and Aberdare Hospitals, died recently at the age of 56. A New Zealander by birth, he qualified in the Dominion in 1927 and after various house posts, mental hospital work, and a spell in general practice he came to Britain, where he ob- tained the M.R.C.P. (London) in 1941. He then worked in a number of posts in general medicine, but finally decided to take up radiology, which he studied at Harnmersmith Hospital. He was then Senior Registrar in Oldchurch and later in Lambeth, before being appointed to his final consultant post at Merthyr. In addition to having two radio!ogical diplomas he also passed the primary F.R.C.S. Vautier was a quiet withdrawn man whom his colleagues liked and respected more and more each time they sought his help. Faced with a group of hospitals which were difficult to serve from a radio- logical point of view, he organized the radiology with typical quiet efficiency. He was a faithful attender at the meetings of the Welsh Radiologieal Group where his opinion on administrative and elinical matters was in frequent demand. He liked, when he could get away, to attend the week-end and other meetings of the Faculty of Radiologists, of which he became a member in 1953. Dr. Vautier, who was unmarried, was widely respected as a man of great sincerity and devotion, and one who did much in his own hospitals to further the integration of radiology with clinical medicine.
