The details
• Starts from 1 October 2014 – 30 September 2016
• Single annual award
• Same compliance as the Wellcome Trust.

Wellcome Trust – a reminder
• Immediately available in Europe PMC on date of publication or within 6 months
• Publisher .pdf with the Creative Commons license CC-BY
• Author accepted manuscript with any license
• Funder and grant details to be acknowledged on the paper
• Clear statement about how data, models etc underpinning publication can be accessed by researchers & other users

Details
• At least one co-author of a paper should be funded by a COAF partner to be eligible
• If other research funder mandates open access - open access costs to be split between the contributing funders.
• Only charges within a grant period
• Retrospective papers – contact COAF directly for advice

What can’t be charged?
• Commissioned reviews/conference proceedings
• Colour/page charges
• Monographs and book chapters - a separate funding mechanism in place to manage the payment of these costs for its funded researchers.

APC details
• APC invoice received before September 30 2014
• Paper accepted before 1 October, and APC invoice received on or after 1 October 2014
• Paper accepted after 30 September 2014

What you might want to know
• First come first served
• Grant goes below 10% then we contact COAF (for a top-up)
• 12 month cut-off point – no funds available through COAF
• Any unspent funds on the grant cannot be carried over and will be written back to the Trust (and returned to the partner funders).

What you might want to know (2)
• For publishers operating hybrid models, increased revenue from APCs should be reflected in reductions in the subscription fees they set (for non OA content).
• Expectation that subscription savings should be spent on APCs
• Report to WT in Nov 2015 and Nov 2016• Using the JISC Monitor Excel spreadsheet
