Charitable Care Benefits Many Residents

Wesley Manor is grateful for the kindness exhibited by our faithful friends through events like “Have a Heart for Seniors”, “Swing for Seniors” Golf Scramble and our Country Jubilee.

Charitable Care is discounting of fees (including monthly and some incidental expenses) and payment of certain costs for approved residents who have exhausted their assets.

Who is eligible for charitable care? All current assisted living, memory care and health care residents who have lived with us for more than three years – and who have depleted their assets - may apply for assistance. In our 51-years, Wesley Manor has never asked anyone to leave their home here when their life savings were exhausted and they couldn’t pay the full costs of their care. We don’t guarantee that charitable care benefits will be available to all residents who request it. Residents who have transferred assets to family or others are not eligible.

How is charitable care funded?• Through contributions designated for our

Charitable Care Program. • Through special events and appeals, such as

our annual Swing for Seniors Golf Scramble, our Fall Event Fundraiser, the Annual Report Appeal and Home for Christmas Appeal.

• Through operational revenue that pays the shortfall between monies raised through donations and fundraisers and qualified residents’ charitable care needs.

Why are YOUR gifts so important? Meet Mary – and read more about this remarkable woman in our cover letter accompanying this Annual Report. In our last fiscal year 73 residents like Mary received more than $1,320,000 in charitable care.

Long-term care is an industry that is built on relationships. Wesley Manor has provided services to seniors for over fifty years. Those services and programs have been developed and delivered by a caring board of directors, a quality staff, and countless volunteers and family members. This has been a winning combination here at Wesley Manor. If any one of these groups is missing, or is not performing at an acceptable level, the system fails. And they must all work together in harmony to achieve success. They must communicate continually. Everyone needs to remember that they can’t do it alone. Like a fine-tuned engine, all of the parts have specific roles.

The last year at Wesley Manor has been a great success! Our Patio Homes are full with a waiting list. Our Assisted Living, Memory Care and Health Care Centers are all experiencing census levels at or above budget. We are making significant improvements to our physical plant. The environment is welcoming and appealing. Our residents and clients are receiving excellent care. We have an exciting activities program. Our staff longevity is one of the best in the industry. Our friends in the community have been generous in their financial support of Wesley Manor. Our board is making plans for the future. Word is definitely getting out to the community-at-large about the good things taking place at Wesley Manor.

But, the success we are having doesn’t mean we can “rest on our laurels.” We have aging buildings that always need updating. The government payment-for-services programs are reducing support to our health care organizations. Competition in our industry is

“heating up”, and we must work harder to attract new clients. We need to be strong as an organization, and build new relationships with other providers including hospitals, physician groups, insurance carriers, and other long-term care groups.

Our Board of Directors and staff will be working next year on ensuring that our future is secure. Our Mission Advancement Committee is working with our Development Office to identify new friends to offer financial support for much-needed renovation/redecoration projects now being planned. Our Development Office is also charged with raising funds to support our charitable care program, so that no resident ever has to leave because they’ve outlived their resources.

Our work at Wesley Manor is constant. We can never rest. But, along with our extended family, we will succeed. The world may be in turmoil, but Wesley Manor will always remain a beacon of hope and a place of refuge for the seniors in our community.

Thanks be to God for Wesley Manor!

Building Relationships is the Key to our Success
