  • 1. Character Representation By Jess Soalheiro

2. Introduction In our opening scene we have a character that we want to represent as sympathetically as we can. We will try to do this through camera angles and the use of mise-en-scene, also well look at their posture and stage presents on screen so that it is easy to establish who the audience are meant to like. 3. The Older brother (Dan) Dan is an older brother and the point we want the audience to understand about Dan is how he is a carer for his sister, at this point of the story that we will be filming the reason will not be identified. The first aspect of Dan we want to investigate more is how Dan is a carer to his sister. Dan is a young carer. We need to look at the effects caring for relatives, the problems and It is going to help us know how to present Dan and even his sister. What young carers do: The cleaning, ironing, cooking The personal caring like bathing Support Lifting and carrying Medication Looking after siblings Managing the budget, bills and payments This would have an effect on someone like Dan because if he had to look after his sister this is what he would have to do. This would affect him because it would mean that he would have to work more hours to get more money and would still have to find time to do the household chores and still look after his sister. 4. Now we need to look at the role of an older brother. The age we were thinking for our older brother was 18 or older. The role Dan will partake in his sisters life is a big role, he will be her role model and this needs to be established. Their relationship will naturally be very close because it is only the two of them. We still need to establish that they are brother and sister though, so there should be a small sibling quarrel between them to establish this. This picture shows the type of relationship we want the pair to present on screen. This picture shows how her brother is carrying her on his shoulder like he would in life, looking after her. I think this picture also shows the very close relationship between the two. 5. Mise-en-scene I think as Dan will be working in some sort of office so his clothing should he be quite smart casual. I think this will also resemble their relationship as him needing to be a role model but at the same time being her best friend. I also think it needs to be smart because he is the head of their family now and needs to have some sort of authority to his sister. I also think it will help distinguish their age gap. Overall, I think that Dan will be caring a caring brother that will also act as the role model for his sister. 6.
