First Person/Dual Narrative
Scout Finch
• Scout is a 6 year old girl who is telling the story in first person narrative.
• She has a very close relationship with her father Atticus and older brother Jem.
• As she spends a lot of her time with her brother meaning she acted like her brother and his friends.
Atticus’s Lessons
• Scout and her brother were brought up to treat everyone as equals by their father.
• This is hard as they are surrounded by racism.
• The fact that Scout listens to these lessons shows she is a strong character.
Character Development
• Scout sees her father as boring, like a typical child would if their father did not play with them.
• This soon changes when she realises the responsibly he has.
• This shows her maturity as she has an understanding towards her fathers responsibilities.
Effects of Racism
• When she is younger she is affected by the racism as she is srrounded by it in school.
• She changes as she grows up and realises that it is wrong.
• “every passing Negro laughing in the night was Boo Radley loose and after us”
• Scout and other children seen him as something to fear.
