SYNOPSIS (THIS OUTLINES THE FLOW OF THE PARTY EVENTS).

Holly O. Wene is famous for her exciting Halloween celebrations. Year after year people flock to their mailboxes during the month of October in hopes of finding an invitation to her bash. Halloween’s around the corner and the who’s who of Pumpkin Town will be soon be arriving to Holly’s mansion wearing the most creative Halloween attire, and ready to play fun Halloween party games, and dine on delicious spooky snacks. The town’s pumpkin patch owner, Mrs. Polly Pumpkin, plans to make a special announcement this year at Holly’s bash. The town gossips are dying to find out what Mrs. Pumpkin has to say!

Polly Pumpkin’s Pumpkin Patch is the preeminent spot to pick out your Halloween pumpkin in the entire world. Rumor has it that Mrs. Pumpkin plans to retire and is seeking an heir to carry on the family business. Sources closest to Mrs. Pumpkin say there may be challenging mysteries to tackle and scavenger hunts to endure before she selects a grand prize winner. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE HOST

Thank you for purchasing the HOLLY O. WENE’S HALLOWEEN CELEBRATION game from mymysteryparty.com! This mystery is a light-hearted and entertaining mystery that allows the children to step into a different character while trying to solve the entertaining mysteries. The party can be a huge success as long as the guests relax and let the mystery unravel during each round.

The party pack (this document) needs to be printed in advance of the party. Cut out the clues and slip them into envelopes labeled with the appropriate round and character for each round of the party. It is optimal to choose different colored envelopes for each round. You will also have to prepare scavenger hunt clues and hide them in the designated places prior to the party for the scavenger hunt at the conclusion of Round One and also for the finale scavenger hunt which is set by the boundaries you decide upon (i.e. living room area, whole house, backyard, street or neighborhood, etc.). A prize for the finale scavenger hunt is optional.

THE ROUNDS ARE DESIGNED AS FOLLOWS:

PRE-GAME: these pre-game starters are to be delivered to each guest before the party or give them to the guests as they arrive. All pre-game starters are optional and do not alter the mystery, and are intended to enhance the pre-game build up for the event. These clues are not vital to solving the mystery and will appear as an invitation ‘reminder’ to the characters playing the game.

ROUND ONE: Serve small snacks. Make sure the ‘Guest Instructions’ and the ‘List of Characters’ are available for your guests to read when they arrive. You can also take the time to review these materials with your guests before starting the game. You can either deliver these clues as your guests arrive or you can wait until all guests have arrived and after reading the instructions and answering any questions that arise, you can pass out the envelopes for round one to all of the guests at once. This round will end with an exciting scavenger hunt for more clues to the mysteries.

ROUND TWO: The round two clues will be ‘found’ during the hunt at the end of Round one. Allow the guests to open these while you serve a light dinner. At this time, the guests can discuss the 5 mysteries. FINAL SOLUTION / ROUND THREE: Cake and hot chocolate should be served during this round as the guests read their final solutions. Hide the pumpkin cut outs in any area that you designate for the finale scavenger hunt. Be sure to tell your guests their boundaries before the hunt. Depending on their age will depend on how challenging you should hide the pumpkins.

HOW TO PLAY A MYSTERY Guest Instructions

Professional actors are great for mysteries but do not worry because you do not have to be a good actor – or an actor at all – to play a mystery party! The only quality that you need to possess is the ability to have a blast! The game is separated into 3 main rounds with some fun scavenger hunts and party games mixed in throughout the mystery party. During the party, you will You will be asked to submit your best guesses of the 5 mysteries at the end of Round Two. From this point forward, you are to remain in character until the mysteries are solved. If you are playing a ‘green alien from Mars’, then that is who you are until the end! Feel free to play your role however you feel comfortable. Embellish your character’s personality if you would like. However, if you are feeling shy, you can just listen in on others’ conversations to get your information. Not everyone needs to or should have the spotlight! Have fun!

OPTIONAL PRE-GAME ROUND Host Instructions: Feel free to use the free party invitations on the mymysteryparty.com website. They can be found on the game page where you purchased this game – just scroll down to the bottom and click on the link to the ‘party invitations.’ The invitations can be printed and sent to your guests via snail mail or you can deliver them in person either before the party or as the guests arrive to the party This optional pre-game round is to be implemented approximately one week before the party – after the guests have RSVP’d. Only give the pre-game starters to the guests who plan to come to the party. These are not the invitations and they’re only used to build pre-game excitement. Please note that this round is not necessary to solve the mystery. The ways to deliver these starters are as follows:

Hand-deliver the clues to the guests. Print these clues and send them to your guests via snail mail - USPS. You can hand these to your guests as they arrive before you pass out the round one envelopes.

PRE GAME STARTERS: Slip these into sealed envelopes and label with the appropriate character and round (pre-game) and deliver via one of the methods described above.

ROUND ONE LET’S GET THIS HALLOWEEN PARTY STARTED!

Host Instructions: As the guests arrive, put on their name tags (page 36+) with scotch tape. At this time, the ‘Creative Pumpkin Challenge’ can be played (see below). There are 5 mini mysteries to solve during this game. Round one will introduce each of these mysteries to the guests. First thing to do as the host (after the Pumpkin Challenge) is to read the message #1 from Mrs. Polly Pumpkin (below) to the group. Then, pass out the round one envelopes to each guest. There will be a mystery clue in each character’s round one clue card for each of the mysteries. For example, Holly O. Wene will have a clue for mystery one, Bella Balle will have a clue for mystery two, and so on.

The scavenger hunt clues – (page 13-14) cut out and slipped into brightly colored envelopes and sealed (envelopes are optional). If the ‘Creative Pumpkin Challenge’ is played, the materials for the game are required (see below). If the ‘Eyeball Hunters’ challenge is played, you will need the materials for this game (page 12). If the ‘Halloween Feel Game’ is played, you will need the materials for this game (page 12). If the Who Can Make the Witches Brew game is played, you will need the materials for this game (page 14). ROUND TWO – MORE MYSTERY CLUES Host Instructions: At the conclusion of the scavenger hunt in round one, the guests were handed the round two envelopes. Allow enough time for the guests to read the scavenger hunt clues first and write the information down on the mystery investigation sheets and discuss the mysteries thus far - before moving on to Round Two. You don’t want to information overload them! Just simply tell them to hold on to their envelopes for Round Two until you say to open them. At this time, you can serve a light dinner to the guests.

ROUND THREE– THE SOLUTIONS TO THE MYSTERIES Host Instructions: Ask the guests to sit in a circle. Hand them the round 3 envelopes. Ask the optional players (i.e. Piper Pommes, Daisy May, Chief C.R. Badges, Tony Momo, Jason Jonas - if they are playing) to read their clues first (they were optional players so they don’t have solutions to the mysteries on their cards, but they still have a Halloween joke to tell the group.) Instruct the guests to read their Halloween joke to the group and then the solution to the mystery. The optional If the charades challenge is played, write the topics on strips of paper and fold them. Put them into any container for the guests to draw them from.

The pumpkin cut outs for the finale scavenger hunt (along with any optional prizes) will need to be hidden in any set boundaries that you choose before the game and definitely before the message #2 from Polly Pumpkin is read to the group.

ROUND THREE SOLUTION CARDS Cut these out and slip them into envelopes labeled with the appropriate character name. Seal the envelopes. Handing these envelopes to the guests signifies the beginning of the final solution round.
