Understanding Stage Fright: Section 1 By: Jaiton Turner

● We have two sources of energy in our bodies “regular and emergency energy system”. ● Regular energy system is based on the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the sleep we get. ● Emergency energy system is when we confronted with danger. This source energy is mainly in the

form of adrenaline. ● Fear and other symptoms of stage fright cause us to use our emergency energy system. ● Fear is a “biological process by which animals, including humans, secure the necessary energy to

do a job that really matters one might potentially result in physical and or psychological injury” , according to Dr. williams Guys, professor of speech communication.

● many people get scared to speak in front of an audience no matter if your a celebrity or prossfenial speaker.

● Some fear may be in the forms of test anxiety, for others it might be just all eyes on them, biologist called this “fight or flight syndrome”.

● Forgetting the words, upset stomach, flushed face, dizziness, fast heartbeat, shortness of breath, excessive perspiration, wobbly legs are all symptoms of stage fright and because our bodies are being flooded with energy and preparing for what they perceive to be an emergency situation.

Establishing an Accurate Perception By: Tie’Nikka Hunter

● Perception can be defined as our recognition and interpretation

of sensory information ● also includes how we respond to the information. ● can be thought as a process where we take in sensory

information from our environment and use that information in order to interact with our environment

● occurs in five stages: stimulation, organization, interpretation evaluation, memory and recall

Examining the Planks of Confidence: Section 3

By: Hannah Gillery ● The 10 components that can help you build self-confidence are Content, Organization, Notes, Friendliness,

Impression, Dedication, Empathy, Newness, Conviction, and Enthusiasm.

● Content which is the first component is Content. With content audiences respect a person who shares a message that contains facts and pertinent evidence.

● The next component is organization and with this you need to make sure that all of your parts in your speech are clear, and the audience can easily identify what the idea is at the time.

● The third component is Notes and with notes you want to make sure that there is not to many words on one card. Your notes are just there to help guide you through your speech.

● The fourth component is Friendliness which is a good value to have because being likeable is the “ magic bullet” in speaking

● The fifth component is Impression which is just making sure that you that you look good dressed properly ● The sixth component is Dedication which is just making sure that you are putting your all into your speech

because if you don’t it might not go as well as you want it to. ● The seventh component is Empathy which is try to get to know your audience because not everyone will

have a good day which will lead them to maybe having weird or unhappy face expressions. ● The eighth component is Newness which just means to add something personal

● The ninth component is Conviction which means to put some spazaz on your subject or it might sound or feel boring.

● If you are are confident about the importance of your message, then your audience is more likely to be persuaded.

● The Last component is Enthusiasm make sure to have thi sat all time. If there is any nervousness try to control it by breathing in and out and focusing on the speech at hand.
