-PlegiaMeaning: Paralysis

Examples:

• Hemiplegia—paralysis on only one side of the body.

Normally occurs when a disease or injury erupts in the motor centers of the brain

Examples:

• Paraplegia—paralysis of the lower portion of the body and both legs

Normally occurs from a disease or injury to the spinal cord

-ItisMeaning: inflammation

Examples:

• Myelitis—inflammation of the spinal cord The inflammation that causes such extensive damage to nerve fibers of the spinal cord may result from viral infections, abnormal immune reactions, or insufficient blood flow through the blood vessels located in the spinal cord.

-ItisMeaning: inflammation

Examples:

• Meningitis—Inflammation of the meninges around the brain or spinal cord caused by bacterial or viral infection. Symptoms include fever, headache, stiff neck, lethargy, vomiting, and irritability.

Commonly spread within small contact groups, transmitting through the nose, mouth and throat.
