3 Criteria1. pest outbreak occurs that causes

significant economic, environmental or health problems

2. no product is registered in Canada for control of that pest

3. no alternative control method is available

Emergency Registration :This product is registered for sale for use on soyb eans in Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Pri nce Edward Island only.The Registration for this product expires November 30, 2010.

Pesticides are classified into one of eleven different Classes depending on:

Pesticides registered under the PCPA must be classified before being offered for sale or used in Ontario.

• their federal classification• whether they are products or active ingredients• whether they are labelled for cosmetic or non-cosme tic uses• how poisonous they are to human health and environm ent• how long they last in the environment• how they are used• their container size

A Certified Farmer must:

� meet the definition of a farmer under Reg. 63/09� be at least 16 years of age � attend a one day GPSC� successfully complete the exam

Certified Farmers must renew every five years by:

�attending the GPSC and passing the exam, or

�studying on their own and passing the exam

Definition of a FarmerYou are a farmer if you own or operate an agricultu ral operation. Agricultural operations include activi ties to:

– Grow, produce or raise farm animals or crops,– Produce eggs, cream or milk– Operate agricultural machinery and equipment,– Process farm products– Manage nutrients– Support the agricultural operation such as use of

transport vehicles or storage containers or maintenance of a shelterbelt

You may also buy and use Class 2 or 3 pesticides to manage your farm woodlot.

Farm Business Registration Number

Farmers who are not certified may buy and use

Class 4 pesticides on their farms. To buy Class 4

pesticides, a farmer must provide the vendor

with his/her Farm Business Registration Number

or a signed copy of the MOE form “Farmer Self

Declaration to Enable Purchase of a Class 4

Pesticide”.

Use on Lawns and Gardens

To manage weeds, insects or other pests affecting lawns and gardens around your home:

You must use biopesticides or lower risk pesticides that are in Class 5, 6, or 7

Certified Farmers are responsible for all pesticide use and handling on the farm.

This includes pesticide use and handling by Assistants.

Use by Assistants

Assistants must:� be farmers and be supervised by a Certified

Farmer� be 16 years of age� have basic pesticide safety training

recognized by the Ministry of the Environment before they handle or use Class 2 or 3 pesticides

� re-train every five years

� attend the Grower Pesticide Safety Course and not write the exam,

OR � participate in an on-farm training

session given by a qualified Assistant Instructor.

Restrictions of Duties for Assistants:(for Class 2 or 3 pesticides)

Assistants may not:� Purchase Class 2 or 3 pesticides� Select or recommend the type of pesticide� Select the rate of application� Select the means of storage or disposal of empty

containers� Calibrate application equipment� Transport or dispose of waste pesticides; or� Use a Class 2 pesticide that produces a suspension in air

in buildings (fog, aerosol, mist, ultra low volume)

Supervising Assistants

1 Certified Farmer may supervise up to

3 Assistants at any given time.Direct supervisionCertified Farmer must be on the farm when an Assist ant mixes, loads or applies Class 2 or 3 pesticides.

Indirect supervisionCertified Farmer does not need to be on the farm, b ut MUST:

1. provide written instructions to Assistants for us e of Class 2pesticides.

2. be available immediately to communicate with the Assistant 3. be present within a reasonable time to respond to an emergency;
