 1.2  Addition  and  subtraction  

 It  doesn’t  matter  what  method  you  use  to  add  or  subtract  numbers.  The  most  important  thing  is  that  the  method  makes  sense  and  it  gives  a  correct  answer.  All  methods  that  make  sense  and  give  a  correct  answer  will  be  given  full  marks.

Exercise  2:  Nathan  builds  a  home  cinema  system.  The  LED  TV  costs  €  1567,  the  DVD  player  costs  €  250  and  the  speakers  cost  €  678.  What  is  the  total  cost  of  the  system  if  he  buys  them  all?                        Exercise  3:  Isaac  opened  a  bank  account  on  Monday  with  €  250.  On  Tuesday  he  withdrew  €  67,  on  Wednesday  he  deposited  €  150,  on  Friday  he  withdrew  €  23  and  on  Saturday  he  deposited  €  385.  How  much  was  in  his  account  on  Sunday.                      Exercise  4:  Matthias  wins  a  car  in  a  competition.  The  car  is  worth  €  15  450.  If  he  decides  to  upgrade  his  car  to  one  which  costs  €  23  567.  How  much  extra  must  he  pay?                      Support  exercises:  F1  pg  17  nos.  1,2,3;  pg  26  nos.  1;  WS  7S

1) Work  out  the  numbers  which  are  not  zero  with  a  normal  multiplication  or  division.
