LENTEN TERM 2016 EDITION 9
LOREM HIGH SCHOOL / SPRING_SUMMER 2009 / VOLUME 01
A huge thank you from myself and all the staff for the generous gifts that were given to us at the end of
last term.
Led by our Head boy and Head girl, the School Council have had a very busy term. A great day was planned for Children in Need including a raffle,
afternoon tea and a concert. The total raised was raised £897.62! Over 100 boxes were collected for the Salvation Army’s Shoe Box appeal.
Thank you for your continued support with our charity work.

Pope Francis announced a Year of Mercy for all in the Catholic Church to focus on forgiveness
and healing in a special way. He invites us to show love, kindness
and generosity to each other and to encounter the incredible mercy of God. At school, we will be using stories and prayers to help us understand more about mercy and to put it into practice in our lives.
The Diocese have written this prayer which I invite you to pray with your family this year:
Loving Jesus, You taught us to show mercy through the story of the Good Samaritan. You ask us to go and do the same, to be good Samaritans to others. May we be your hands and feet of mercy, helping those in need through our actions. May we be your eyes of mercy, looking with compassion on the world. May our schools be a community of mercy, showing love to others in your name.
Amen

Each year, our children are given the opportunity to become Mini Vinnies. Two children are then chosen from each class to represent the school and become mini SVP members - working with o u r C h u r c h S V P t o
s u p p o r t t h o s e i n o u r community. A Liturgy was held to commission the new Mini Vinnies.
We have tremendous support from our volunteers who
regularly come into school to hear children read. Just before
Christmas, we held a special reading afternoon where parents read a Christmas story to a small group of children. The children
loved it and we will definitely look to do this again.

The children in Reception took a metro trip into Newcastle to visit the Bear Factory. They made two bears to take back to school. The
bears are looking forward to going on family adventures when they are taken home with the children.
Our School Choir took part in the ‘Angels of the North’ Concert for
the second year. The event, held at The Sage in Gateshead, involved a number of primary
schools across the North-east. The choir performed a range of songs to a packed out a u d i e n c e
and they were absolutely
fantastic!
St. Alban’s have secured a Lottery grant to develop a community garden on Rothbury Avenue. All the classes
have taken responsibility for developing different elements of the
garden.

Year 6 were invited to attend ‘Faith 15’- a Diocesan event involving
3,000 young people. The children were encouraged to think
about ‘being inspired to inspire’ and listened to some very
inspirational speakers. They also enjoyed singing along to the YMT
band.
Ten Ten Theatre company returned to school to deliver 3 new plays across the Key
Stages all with thought provoking messages.
The weeks leading up to the end of term were full of Christmas cheer.
The school Nativities led by Reception and Key Stage One
were spectacular.
The talent continued in Key Stage Two with Carol singing and a music concert with recorders, guitars, violins and the piano.
St. Alban’s once again supported the very worthwhile charity
‘Macmillan’ by hosting a Coffee Morning. Thank you to all who
came along to support.
Year 6 and the Mini Vinnies visited McErlane Square and Hillside Grange to wish the residents a Merry Christmas.
They sang some songs and Carols then shared the Nativity story using the Travelling Cribs.
