Last years were tough: •loss of several MS & PhD programs •poor relationship with Uma

Finally, in June, we reformulated our statutes so the RAM government is the majority share of our board, and Tecnico was added.

Joining Ocean Observatory (OOM) and our research funder (ARDITI), as a single new institution for research on the island.

ERA Chair Critical Technical Practice Group

We see technology as politics by other means, and we derive our designs by reading STS, critical, feminist, and postcolonial theory; engaging in long-term interactions with communities; and finding challenging collaborators throughout the world. We are interested in technologies of autonomy and solidarity; technologies of empathy; technologies from non-Western epistemologies.

We are also interested in stakes: we are working at the scale of hundreds of thousands of weekly users, in many countries, with actors from governments, the EU, civil society groups, farmers, etc. This is obviously very different from the cozy bourgeois concerns of much speculative design. It is also more messy and requires a diverse and multidisciplinary team.
