How do you define Healthcare Transparency and
Consumer Engagement?
Transparency and Engagement – 4 Primary Views
• Data Centric: “Providing a given set of vendor specific prices for providers and procedures. Hospital A vs. B, MRI or CT Scan and grading hospitals on quality.”
• Employee Centric: “Helping employees understand the range in costs for various healthcare services and providing them with the tools necessary to make informed decisions about high quality, cost effec@ve op@ons.”
• Health System: “I hope the ACA pushes us to enable deeper employee engagement to improve the efficiency and quality of their healthcare, star@ng with our enrollment vendors developing beRer tools.”
• Blended: “Healthcare transparency means providing specific cost informa@on to employees to assist them in purchasing non-‐emergency healthcare services, par@cularly geared for employees in a consumer directed plan. Engagement is when par@cipants actually use the tools and it becomes a normal part of their process of consuming care to create a beRer healthcare system.”
