September 2019 Chandos Street Noise Wall Project update We’re building a new noise wall to help reduce noise in your area. Before we start our major work, we need to carry out our final utility and environmental investigations. What are site investigations? We need to complete site investigations to ensure we build the noise wall safely. The work will involve: Utility investigations - to help us confirm the location of services such as power and telecommunications cables. A vacuum truck for potholing and trenching will be required for this work. Environmental testing - to collect soil samples and testing them to check their contents. This will involve digging to a depth of around 50 centimetres with hand shovels. When the work is completed, the investigation area will be restored to its previous condition. These investigations will take place along the verge of the off ramp on the Warringah Freeway, from St Thomas’ Rest Park to BrookStreet including the end of Chandos Street. We’ve included a map over the page to show the location of work. Our work schedule For the safety of the community and our workers, we will be carrying out the majority of our investigations at night when traffic volumes are lower. The investigations will be carried out over two days and four nights between Monday 16 September and Monday 30 September, weather permitting. Our work hours will be: 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday 8am to 1pm Saturdays and, 8pm to 5am Sunday to Friday. How will our work affect you? Our work may involve some noisy activities. We will make every effort to minimise noise by turning off machinery and vehicles when not in use. There may be some temporary traffic changes may be required to ensure the work zone is safe. Please observe all signage and follow the directions from our traffic controllers.
