Rodante is a ride on a runaway train that takes off from the Argentine plains and lands in the city of Buenos Aires. There, country rhythms compete with the pace of urban hype in a shifting blend of motion sickness. Rodante is squeaking joints underneath warm muscles where Chancha taps into his afro-dance background, reflects on IDM, and relives time spent at Zizek nights. ///About the Artist

“Argentina’s cumbia music has certain

sounds that cannot be found anywhere

else. It’s really dirty, and its keyboard

sounds are really authentic. It’s like the

music from the worst video games ever.

That’s what attracted me to it the most.”

– Chancha Via Circuito

“You wouldn´t guess that the guy selling CDs in the back of Buenos Aires´s Zizek club is one of the scene´s most respected producers. Other Zizek producers craft new school cumbia beats for dancefloor whomp; Chancha takes the mystical / tropical route, emulating both Martin Denny and hip-hop´s pursuit of the perfect loop.” – Jace Clayton (DJ Rupture), Fader Magazine

Chancha Via Circuito is Pedro Canale in transit. The producer also known as Universildo began working at Zizek nights, commuting to Buenos Aires from the city limits. The train he takes is “La Chancha” (the pig) and the line that takes him home, 30 miles out of Buenos Aires, is the “Circuito” (circle). Influenced by his journey, Pedro became the train. As Chancha, Pedro explores the minimal side of digital cumbia, powered by images snapped from train windows. His background in Afro-dance, murgas (colorful marching bands and dance lines), minimal dub elements, IDM, and down-tempo are the steel tracks that carry the cumbia train. Computer bleeps share sonic space with folkloric chant. Candombe drums are accompanied by the sample of a machete splicing the air and a vocal line of indigenous bebop over hints of dub.

From the outskirts of the city where he nurtured music academia and played percussion in a murga as a kid, Pedro recently found himself on Zizek Summer Tour through three countries, completing seventeen shows in thirteen cities in just under a month. With ZZK records, Chancha brings his local concoction to the global dance world at large.

///About ZZK RecordsZZK Records is a home grown, artists’ collective launched recently out of Buenos Aires, Argentina. ZZK Records sprang full-grown from Zizek Club, the weekly party in Palermo, capital of South American hip, where visiting artists and resident deejays attract consistent crowds of global, street music fans. At Zizek, cumbia gets thrown in a sonic blender with minimal electronica, dancehall, reggaeton and dub mashups, and original beats.

ZZK Records artists and Zizek Club are enjoying international attention after a SXSW appearance and follow up U.S., Canadian, and Mexican tour that included a month of consecutive raucous parties. XLR8R posted a podcast mixtape for your listening pleasure while recent issues of The Fader, NME, and Urb feature Zizek’s story and photos. Buenos Aires has grown Zizek into a full-fledged outlet of mayhem. From long nights of party heat in the capital of South American culture, Zizek brings a blend of old and new, rural and urban, where the first and third worlds share the dance floor and make plans to hook up after the party.
