    Dear Parents

Yo ay or may not have become aware that both Chameleons and Nitida Wine Farm have been somewhathal"'assed by a Mr Jurgen Schirmacher of TATIB (a 'green' organization) regarding vine-spraying practices atNitida wine farm.In spite of the two parties being in discussion since 5th March 2010 via both Email andtelephonicallY.MrSchirmacher has seen fi t to correspond with certain of our parents, the South African Montessori Associationand has more recently inspired an inflammatory article that was published in Die Burger. When Mr Bernhard Veller (the owner of Nitida), was approached by Mr Schirmacher some weeks ago, MrSchirmacher's input was welcomed (in spite of his rather aggressive approach), and Bernhard looked forwardto the facts and allegations that were to be presented. Bernhard requested they meet without delay todiscuss the matter. This offer to meet has now been extended to Mr Schirmacher, in writing, on FIVE separateoccasions since the 5th of March. While Mr Schirmacher may believe there are real dangers, he has so far been unable to point out any specificproblems at Nitida and remains unwilling to meet and share his knowledge. We have been reassured by Bernhard that his farming and spraying practices are fully compliant with the lawand the farm follows acceptable safety precautions. He has always insisted that his door is open and that heis willing to implement any reasonable improvements that will enhance safety even further. This position hasbeen made clear to Mr Schirmacher. As you mayor may not know Bernhard and his wife live on the farm and have raised their three children theresince birth. Naturally Bernhard is just as concerned about any possible threats that may be present! In the same light, we at Chameleons remain 100% committed to the health & safety of our children, parents& staff. Investigations initiated by the school in early 2009 resulted in the implementation of the school'svine-spraying policy (communicated to parents at the time of implementation). This policy is a matter ofcommon knowledge and is published in the Parent Guide handbook which is given to all families atChameleons (page 22 refers). The school WELCOMES any new information which is based on fact, is provenand unemotional. We take exception to the manner in which Mr Schirmacher has been approaching the issue and question hispreference for an Email campaign and media war. The true motivation for his actions remain unclear.Since Mr Schirmacher is unwilling or unable to provide any conclusive information, we have approached TheCity of Cape Town (Department of Health) to provide a written report to conclusively separate fact fromfallacy.
