CHALLENGES IN INFECTIOUS DESEASES
UP NORTH
-
22
Conferences addressing specically the challenges of northern medicine are rareand highly appreciated by the northern medical community. In addition to oeringexcellent development opportunities, these events also other great venues to establish new partnerships between northern and southern professionals.
is conference is the result of a partnership between Nunavik and Nunavut. esetwo regions have much in common, but rarely had the opportunity to really worktogether. We are proud of this achievement and we know that it will be the rst ofmuch more fruitful collaborations.
Infectious diseases in the North became a very natural choice for this conference.Without going into too many details right now, it is very clear that STIs, TB, lunginfections and parasitic infections are a daily burden on northern communities.ese endemic infections pose considerable challenges to practitioners, both interms of screening and treatment.
is is exactly why a medical conference for northern doctors, by northern doctorsis needed.
Hoping that the idea of a medical conference on Challenges in InfectiousDiseases Up North also sparks your enthusiasm, we are available for any furtherquestions you may have.
Sincerely,
Dr Gabriel Fortin Full-Time Physician Inuulitsivik Health Center, Nunavik President of the planning committee
